What the role involves

The Chief Executive Officer is the top leader of Britam Mozambique, with full accountability for P&L, market expansion, regulatory compliance, and leadership of a high-performance organization. The role requires strategic vision to execute the Britam Group's ASCEND 2026–2030 plan, translating it into annual business plans, budgets, and clear performance targets. The CEO must identify and capitalize on growth opportunities – new products, customer segments, and partnerships – while ensuring high-quality reporting to the Board of Directors and the Group.

Where the job makes an impact

The CEO's scope covers several critical areas:

• Management of General and Health Insurance portfolios: oversight of underwriting performance, ensuring profitability and loss ratios within targets; monitoring trends and implementing corrective actions; integration between underwriting, claims, and distribution.

• Commercial growth and multi-channel distribution: expansion through brokers, corporate partnerships, agent networks and digital platforms; broadening the corporate, SME and retail customer base; building strategic partnerships with banks and intermediaries; product innovation centered on the Mozambican customer.

• Financial management and operational excellence: oversight of P&L, cost optimization and capital allocation; maintaining healthy underwriting margins and appropriate expense ratios; operational efficiency and service quality across all functions.

• Regulatory compliance and governance: acting as Principal Officer approved by the regulator; proactive relationship with authorities and industry associations; timely submission of statutory reports; implementation of robust risk management and compliance frameworks.

• People leadership and organizational capability: building and leading a high-performance executive team; performance culture aligned with Britam values; developing succession and leadership pipelines; organizational design that supports growth and agility.

• External representation and brand: relationship with the Board, regulators, partners and clients; positioning the company as a reference in insurance and health solutions; protecting and enhancing reputation and brand.

What profile makes sense

The ideal candidate combines proven executive leadership with deep knowledge of the insurance sector. The requirements are demanding, but proportional to the size of the role:

• Bachelor's degree (master's preferred); professional insurance qualification (e.g., ACII or equivalent).

• Minimum of 12 to 15 years of experience in insurance/financial services, with at least 5 years in executive leadership.

• Proven experience in P&L management in General Insurance and/or Health.

• Solid knowledge of regulatory environments in Africa (Mozambique/SADC preferred).

• Fit and proper to act as Principal Officer.

• Experience in emerging markets or expansion in Africa; track record of growth and turnaround; exposure to digital distribution and product innovation; stakeholder management at Board and regulator level.
