The Aga Khan Academy Maputo is recruiting a Safety and Security Manager (SSM) to lead security and risk management at the Maputo campus. About the Role
The Safety and Security Manager reports directly to the Head of Academy (HoA) and is responsible for developing and implementing risk-based strategies, policies and procedures in accordance with AKS/AKDN frameworks. The SSM oversees the security team and ensures that the campus, students and employees are protected from internal and external threats.
The role requires a strategic perspective, maintained through active engagement with local organizations and official departments, ensuring that AKAM leadership receives timely information for operational decisions. The SSM also operates under the technical and functional guidance of the AKS Global Security Lead and collaborates closely with the AKDN Department of International Security (DIS).

Main Responsibilities
Security Management and Planning
Develop and implement a structured security management system, aligned with the AKDN Security Level System (SLS), and provide guidance on strategy, policies, standards and procedures.
Coordinate assessments (SLS), procedures, plans and mechanisms appropriate to regional threat levels and the school context.
Oversee the planning, implementation and quality control of human resources, technical assets and physical protection measures (CCTV, access control, alarms, firefighting equipment).
Collect and analyze security information and disseminate warnings.
Maintain a solid contextual understanding of all areas of the school's operation AKAM in Mozambique and abroad.
Review and implement risk mitigation strategies and lead audits to ensure compliance.
Incident Management
Develop and maintain a Critical Incident Management Team (CIMT) and contingency plans to manage incidents, including coordination with security services emergency.
Support the HoA and CIMT in managing all aspects of security until incident completion.
Maintain a robust and reliable communication system for emergencies.
Promptly report all incidents and participate in after-action reviews to capture lessons learned.
Collect and analyze security information relevant to schools in areas of operation.
Coordination and Relationships
Establish relationships with police forces, national council security team and emergency services.
Actively participate in monthly/quarterly Security Coordination Cell (SCC) meetings led by DIS.
Work under functional guidance from the AKS Global Security Lead and in close coordination with the Department of International Security (DIS).
Maintain regular contact with AKDN sister agency security focal points.
Training and Briefings
Deliver or coordinate security workshops, drills and drills for staff and students.
Conduct regular training for security guards, drivers and support staff.
Develop capabilities for any employee with security duties. security, full or part time.
Provide in-country security briefings to employees and international visitors.
Prepare bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly security reports for supervisors and senior leadership team (SLT).
Ensure onboarding and security briefing for all new employees.
Ensure statutory standards fire preparedness and first aid requirements are met.
Private Security Management
Advise the GSL and HoA on the selection of subcontracted security companies and manage contracts to ensure operational requirements are met.
Manage the activities and performance of private security providers in accordance with AKS policies, established KPIs and the contract of service.
Conduct monthly and quarterly review meetings with the private security company and report.
Support
Investigate security violations and non-compliances.
Develop, manage and monitor the security budget.
Produce reports, participate in meetings and perform other tasks inherent to the position, as requested by supervisors.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Education: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in arts, sciences or security-related field.
Experience: Minimum of 7 years of proven experience in security management at a comparable level, in a reputable national or international organization, or in the armed forces national.
Contextual Knowledge: Strong knowledge of the political, social, economic and security environment in Mozambique and East Africa.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English and Portuguese.
Availability: Ability to undertake regular travel within the country to areas operational.
Training: Proven ability to design and deliver training programs.
Highly Desirable
Previous experience in risk management in a renowned national or international organization (e.g. UN, NGOs/INGOs) in East Africa and/or security experience in the education sector.
