FAO – Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations – is recruiting District Field Technicians (m/f) to join the AquaVita+ Mozambique project, an initiative focused on strengthening climate resilience and food security in rural communities in Sofala. The vacancies are intended for the districts of Machanga and Chibabava, with contracts of 6 months and applications open until 30 June 2026.

What the role involves
As a Technician Campo District, will be the link between FAO, local farmers and communities. Your day-to-day activities will include:
Organizing and training farmers through Farmer Field Schools (FFS), promoting the exchange of knowledge and the adoption of good agricultural practices;
Promoting sustainable agriculture, agroforestry and sustainable land management, with a focus on conserving resources
Support the distribution of agricultural inputs and the operationalization of e-voucher systems, ensuring that resources reach the right beneficiaries;
Carry out community mobilization, register farmers and collect field data, ensuring reliable information for project monitoring;
Promote water-saving practices and climate resilience, helping communities adapt to extreme events;
Support community nutrition activities and nutrition-sensitive agriculture, integrating food security with family health;
Work in close coordination with local authorities, implementing partners and service providers, ensuring synergy between all actors on the ground.

What profile makes sense
FAO is looking for professionals with solid training and practical experience in rural extension. Essential requirements include:
Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Rural Extension, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Nutrition or related field;
Minimum of 2 years of experience in rural extension, farmer training or sustainable agriculture;
Skill in English and Portuguese (spoken and written);
Proven experience with small farmers and community development;
Driving license for a 125cc motorbike and comfort when traveling in difficult terrain;
Knowledge of local Sofala languages (such as Sena or Ndau) is a distinct advantage.
It is also valued ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, good intercultural communication and commitment to the principles of gender equality and inclusion.
