Main Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Consular Section (Consular Chief), the Consular Associate will perform a wide range of operational functions in the following strategic units:

  • American Citizen Services (ACS): Support the delivery of services emergency and routine consular services to US citizens in Mozambican territory (such as issuance of passports, foreign birth registrations and notarial assistance).

  • Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV): Conduct the administrative and non-decisional processing of non-immigrant visas, ensuring the correct collection of biometric data, verification of forms and screening of supporting documentation.

  • Fraud Prevention Unit (FPU): Assist in security investigations, document authenticity verification and validation studies to mitigate fraud risks in the visa process.

  • Institutional Communication: Manage official correspondence with the general public, lawyers, US government entities, Mozambique government ministries, US Congress and other interested parties.

Candidate Profile and Requirements Required

Academic Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Education: Completion of Secondary Education (High School / 12th Class) or equivalent as a mandatory minimum requirement.

  • Time of Experience: Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in office administration, of which at least 1 year must be specific experience in consular matters. Alternative: Minimum of 2 years of experience in office administration if the candidate fits the FP-07 level (Training Level).

Language Requirements (Mandatory):

  • English: Total and absolute fluency (Reading, Speaking and Writing). Note: The level of language proficiency will be rigorously tested during the selection process.

Security and Hiring Certifications:

  • Mandatory ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.

  • Mandatory submission to a detailed criminal and ethical background investigation (background investigation) and, if applicable, pre-employment medical examinations.

  • Availability to begin duties within a reasonable period of time after receiving official clearance and agency security credentials.
