Project Associate (WASH) — IOM Xai-Xai
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the leading UN agency in the area of migration since 1951, is recruiting a Project Associate (WASH) to join its team in Xai-Xai. What the role involves
The Project Associate (WASH) will be responsible for the field implementation of water, sanitation and hygiene, ensuring that each intervention is participatory and aligned with local authorities and partners. Key responsibilities include:
Monitor field activities, such as cash for work, implementing partners and suppliers, in accordance with technical specifications and contracts.
Prepare procurement documents (requisitions, tenders, technical assessments) and monitor purchasing and payment processes.
Collect, compile and analyze data on WASH needs, producing progress reports and identifying deviations in execution.
Write technical correspondence, reports, briefings, presentations and statistical tables.
Coordinate meetings, workshops and training sessions with local and international stakeholders.
Participate in field visits and meetings with donors, UN agencies and NGOs.
Orient and train new team members.
Where the work generates impact
This position is based in Xai-Xai, Gaza province, and the work will be on-site, full-time. The focus is on vulnerable populations — migrants, refugees, internally displaced people and victims of trafficking — and on improving water supply and sanitation systems. Close coordination with local government and humanitarian partners ensures solutions are sustainable and culturally appropriate.
What profile makes sense
Education
High school diploma with five years of relevant experience; or
Degree in Water/Environmental/Civil Engineering or related field, with three years of experience.
Experience
Proven experience in monitoring and supervising WASH projects, especially water supply systems.
Ability to prepare work plans, measurements and cost estimates for interventions WASH.
(Word, Excel, Project).
Knowledge of Mozambican water and sanitation regulations and international standards.
Desirable knowledge of GIS (ArcGIS or similar) and drawing software (AutoCAD or similar).
Languages
Mandatory fluency in English and Portuguese (oral and written).
Knowledge of local languages of southern Mozambique are an advantage.
