Main Activities and Responsibilities

According to the announcement seen in image_81fe41.jpg, the Port Captain will assume the following strategic responsibilities:

• Legal Compliance: Ensure strict compliance with maritime and port legislation in force.

• Operational Security: Ensure the safety of navigation, people, vessels and port infrastructure and facilities.

• Traffic Supervision: Supervise local maritime activities, including ship traffic, anchorages and pilotage services.

• Surveillance and Rescue: Coordinate safety actions maritime inspection, search and rescue (Search and Rescue), as well as the prevention of marine pollution.

• Administrative Acts: Issue technical opinions, authorizations and formal orders within the scope of the powers of the Port Authority.

• Sectoral Coordination: Coordinate directly with port authorities, defense and security forces, shipowners and others Relevant stakeholders of the sector.

• Emergency Management: Coordinate maritime emergency operations and ensure a rapid and effective response to incidents.

Candidate Profile and Essential Requirements

• Proven Maritime Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience on Long-Haul Vessels with Gross Tonnage exceeding 3000 GRT.

  • Minimum of 5 years of boarding registered on a Maritime Note.

  • Minimum of 5 years of functional experience as Captain in large ports dimension.

• Technical Skills and Attributes:

  • Solid knowledge of maritime, port and environmental legislation.

  • Strong leadership skills, decision-making under pressure and a high sense of responsibility, ethics and integrity.

  • Availability to work under a prevention.

• Academic Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Higher or technical-professional training in the maritime, naval or similar area.

  • Maritime certifications valid for the exercise of the role.

  • Formal certification as Harbor Captain.

• Others Skills:

  • Experience in interinstitutional coordination and solid knowledge of operational and administrative management.

  • Complete command of the Portuguese language and functional knowledge of the English language.
