The Role of the Civil Construction Intern
The Civil Construction Intern will be integrated into the Technical Department of SOTECH, where they will have the opportunity to actively participate in various work fronts, from the budgeting and technical proposal phase to monitoring construction activities on the ground.
This role requires a combination of solid technical skills, analytical skills and a proactive stance when faced with day-to-day challenges. The intern will be an active member of the team — not a passive observer — and will have concrete responsibilities that will directly contribute to the results of ongoing projects.
The role is face-to-face, full-time, based in Maputo, and is part of the company's professional internships program, with duration and conditions to be defined according to the selected profile.
Detailed Responsibilities and Roles
The selected intern will assume a diverse set of technical and administrative responsibilities, all of them aimed at professional growth and delivering real value to the organization.
Budget and Technical Proposals
- Actively support the preparation of budgets and technical proposals for civil construction projects, ensuring accuracy in calculations and consistency with project specifications;
- Perform measurements and survey quantities of materials accurately, using plans, elevations and other technical documents as reference;
- Support with estimates of areas, quantities of material and auxiliary drawings necessary for the preparation of competitive and technically based proposals;
- Collect, organize and compile all the technical and documentary information necessary for the preparation of public tenders and private proposals.
Construction Monitoring and Quality Control
- Guide the construction team regarding the correct application of materials and finishing solutions, ensuring that the aesthetics and quality envisaged in the project are respected at all stages of execution;
- Ensure that all monitored projects comply with applicable local standards, including municipal regulations, urban licensing and construction codes in force in Mozambique;
- Ensure the conservation and good use of materials, equipment and facilities used in the company's projects and facilities.
Professional Development and Internal Management
- Apply the theoretical knowledge acquired during academic or technical training in real practical contexts, consolidating and expanding your skills base;
- Actively participate in training and capacity building activities promoted by the company, making the most of the development opportunities offered;
- Strictly comply with the defined internship plan and the instructions of the designated supervisor, demonstrating organization, punctuality and commitment;
- Prepare periodic activity reports and provide administrative support to the Technical Department when requested, contributing to the operational efficiency of the team;
- Maintain the absolute confidentiality of all information, documents and sensitive data of the company and its customers;
- Comply with the organization's schedules, procedures and internal standards, demonstrating professionalism and respect for SOTECH's corporate culture.
Ideal Candidate Profile
SOTECH is looking for young technicians with a solid academic base in Civil Construction, but above all, with a right attitude: humility to learn, rigor to execute and ambition to grow. The technical profile is important, but the behavioral profile is equally decisive in the selection process.
Academic Training and Experience
- Middle Level in Civil Construction — higher education (degree or equivalent) constitutes a significant advantage in the selection process;
- Minimum experience of 1 (one) year in the area of Civil Construction is preferred, although curricular internships, practical academic work or informal experiences are equally valued;
- Age between 20 and 30 years.
Technical Skills
- Solid knowledge of standards and regulations applicable to civil construction in Mozambique, including municipal legislation and building codes;
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office package, with special emphasis on Excel (for measurement and budgeting sheets) and Word (for preparing reports and proposals);
- Proven ability to interpret architectural and engineering projects, including reading plans, sections, elevations and specifications;
- Skills in measurements and surveying quantities, with attention to detail and precision in calculations;
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Project constitutes a relevant competitive advantage.
Behavioral Skills
- High sense of responsibility and autonomy in managing assigned tasks;
- Excellent ability in oral and written communication and interpersonal relationships with colleagues, supervisors and external partners;
