The Strategic Role of the Field Extension Officer
AVSI Moçambique is looking for a dynamic professional to ensure the implementation and technical monitoring of the SPOM Project at district level. This is a unique opportunity to deeply impact rural communities in the Nampula region, covering the districts of Rapale, Lalaua, Malema and Murrupula.
The successful candidate will be the fundamental link between agrarian innovation and traditional practices, supporting local producers in the adoption of Agro-forestry Systems (SAF). You will work directly with Sustainable Agricultural Land Management (SALM) methodologies, promoting environmental restoration and high-impact regenerative agriculture.

Impact and Main Responsibilities
On the ground, your actions will be decisive for the ecological and economic success of communities. We require a level of technical excellence that ensures the quality of implementation, precision in data collection and strict compliance with the standards defined by the project.
Your responsibilities will cover a wide range of technical and relational actions, structured to maximize agricultural income and long-term sustainability. You must be prepared for daily in-depth human and ecological contact.
Technical Implementation and Field Monitoring
- Management of Agro-forestry Systems (SAF): Implement all planned SAF models on the ground, ensuring the climate resilience of crops and the optimization of land use.
- Nursery and Reforestation: Closely monitor the management of nurseries, supervise the distribution of seedlings and coordinate seasonal planting campaigns.
- SALM Promoter: Actively support producers in the transition and adoption of Sustainable Agricultural Land Management practices, ensuring continued productivity.
- Regenerative Agriculture: Actively promote soil conservation, biodiversity and the integration of nature-based solutions.
- Direct Technical Assistance: Provide continuous and specialized support to Farmers beneficiaries, resolving obstacles on the ground in a timely manner.
Community Training and Data Management
- Practical Training: Organize, deliver and facilitate practical training, as well as field demonstrations to transfer knowledge.
- Plot Monitoring: Closely monitor agricultural plots, making regular visits to assess the progress and health of crops.
- Georeferencing and Reporting: Collect technical data using digital forms, GPS and advanced georeferencing tools for accurate mapping.
- Carbon Markets (Verra): Support monitoring activities aligned with the stringent requirements of voluntary carbon markets, specifically the Verra standards.
- Technical Reporting: Prepare periodic technical reports, detailing the progress, obstacles and results of activities in the district.
Interinstitutional Coordination
- Internal Coordination: Collaborate closely and proactively with the Deputy Agricultural Coordinator in the strategic planning of activities.
- Local Engagement: Coordinate fluidly with community leaders, District Services of Economic Activities and other important local institutions.
Candidate Profile and Essential Requirements

Academic Training
Mandatory Degree: In Rural Development, Agronomy, Social Sciences or strictly related areas. Training must have been obtained from an educational institution of recognized merit.
Experience and Technical Skills
Success in this role depends on robust practical experience in the field and refined interpersonal skills. The candidate must demonstrate:
- Proven Experience: Solid track record in community/rural extension, social mobilization or implementation of development projects on the ground.
- Participatory Methodologies: In-depth and applicable knowledge of participatory methodologies and community facilitation techniques.
- Linguistic Fluency: Absolute command of the Portuguese language and practical knowledge of local languages in the area of intervention.
- Data Management: Good monitoring and reporting practices, including basic data collection and management in the field.
- Mobility: Immediate availability for frequent travel in rural areas.
