Ayuda en Acción is recruiting a Gender-Based Violence Case Assistant for Mocímboa da Praia, in Cabo Delgado. This is a frontline role in the protection response, focused on direct support to survivors, coordinating safe referrals, and linking the community, specialized services, and the protection team. It is an opportunity for professionals with experience in GBV case management who are looking for work with concrete impact, strong ethical demands, and close engagement with communities.

What the role involves

On a daily basis, the selected person will ensure survivor-centered case management, from intake and needs assessment to safety planning, initial psychosocial support, and referral to health services, legal assistance, mental health care, and other relevant support. The work requires regular case follow-up, revision of action plans as needs evolve, and accurate information recording, always respecting the principles of safety, confidentiality, informed consent, and non-discrimination.

  • Provide direct support to survivors with a trauma-sensitive approach and a focus on informed decision-making.

  • Provide psychological first aid and referrals to specialized services when needed.

  • Maintain case documentation with quality, consistency, and data protection, including standards such as GBVIMS where applicable.

  • Map and update available multisectoral services to enable safe and timely referrals.

Ayuda en Acción has been working in Mozambique since 2016 in protection, education, economic opportunities, and humanitarian assistance. In this role, the impact is direct: strengthening community protection mechanisms and improving survivors’ access to essential and coordinated gender-based violence services. The position is based in Mocímboa da Praia, with possible travel within the province, and reports to the Protection Project Manager.

In addition to case management, the position includes close work with community focal points, volunteers, protection agents, humanitarian partners, and local authorities, contributing to a coordinated response and avoiding duplication across services.

Profile suited to the role

This opportunity is suited to professionals with training in Human Rights, Humanitarian Protection, Social Work, Social Sciences, International Development, or related fields. Specific training in GBV, child protection, or humanitarian protection will be valued, especially where there is certified preparation in case management.

  • At least 2 to 3 years of experience in gender-based violence case management in humanitarian, development, or emergency settings.

  • Proven practice in survivor-centered services aligned with inter-agency guidelines and ethical protection principles.

  • Ability to assess needs, develop individualized plans, and follow cases with rigor and cultural sensitivity.

  • Good coordination with teams, partners, and external services, including monitoring, reporting, and validation of program evidence.

  • Fluency in Portuguese, Emakhuwa, and Emaconda; intermediate English is an asset.

Conditions and application

The position is for a fixed-term contract of 12 months, with immediate start and duty station in Mocímboa da Praia. The indicated gross monthly salary ranges from 60.000,00 MZN e 75.000,00 MZN, depending on demonstrated experience, plus the benefits provided under the organization’s policy, including life insurance, health insurance, and a communication allowance.
