The Aga Khan Academies are an integrated network of residential schools dedicated to expanding access to education of an international standard of excellence for exceptional men and women, regardless of their financial means. Planned for Africa, South and Central Asia, and the Middle East, the core values of the Aga Khan Academies include pluralism, meritocracy, and civil society. Set on spacious and attractive campuses with excellent facilities, the Academies offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum from the primary years through the Diploma and provide a rich opportunity for teachers and students to grow professionally and personally. The first Aga Khan Academy opened in Mombasa, Kenya in 2003, the second in Hyderabad, India in 2011, the third in Maputo, Mozambique in 2013, and the fourth Academy in Dhaka, Bangladesh in August 2022.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and protect the health status of students and staff.

  • Conduct health assessments of students and staff.

  • Develop and implement school health plans and policies.

  • Maintain, evaluate, and interpret student health data, ensuring response to individual needs.

  • Plan and implement school health management protocols.

  • Develop procedures and ensure emergency management (injuries and illnesses).

  • Provide first aid and nursing care.

  • Administer medications upon prescription and appropriate authorization.

  • Promote and support communicable disease control.

  • Monitor and follow up on students with chronic conditions (asthma, diabetes, allergies, etc.).

  • Ensure compliance with hygiene, safety, and biosafety standards.

  • Manage and control materials and medications in the school health office.

  • Refer students to health units when necessary.

  • Develop and implement health education campaigns.

  • Participate directly and indirectly in health education activities, promoting greater individual responsibility for health.

  • Collaborate with the school team to identify and respond to students' health needs.

  • Perform other related tasks as needed.

Human Relations

  • Promote a welcoming, professional, and trusting environment.

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff.

  • Contribute to a healthy and collaborative organizational climate.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or technical training in Nursing.

  • Valid registration with the Order of Nurses (or regulatory entity).

  • Experience in pediatric, community, or school nursing (preferred).

  • Training in first aid and basic life support.
