A Save the Children is recruiting 1 MEAL Officer for Nacarôa, Nampula Province. This is an opportunity for professionals with experience in monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning who want to support the implementation of the MEAL system in the SBIS project, with a focus on data quality, field activity monitoring, and the use of evidence to support program decisions.

What this role involves

The MEAL Officer will join the MEAL unit in Nampula and provide direct support to the implementation of the MEAL system in the districts of Nacarôa, Eráti, Memba, and Nacala Velha. The role includes applying the organization’s MEAL strategy, in alignment with Save the Children’s global policies and donor requirements.

  • Carry out routine field monitoring and follow up on project activity implementation.

  • Ensure a consistent, complete data flow with the quality required for analysis and decision-making.

  • Promote the regular use of quality standards in implementation monitoring, in coordination with field program teams.

  • Support data collection processes for studies, evaluations, and learning activities.

  • Ensure the proper use of data collection tools and compliance with ethical standards during fieldwork.

Profile that fits the role

The organization is looking for candidates with higher education in Statistics, Economics, Development Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Social Sciences or a similar field. Practical experience in MEAL systems, data collection and management, and field team support is important.

Essential requirements:

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in monitoring and evaluation, preferably in education projects with international NGOs.

  • Strong command of MEAL components and experience implementing monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning systems.

  • Solid experience in collecting quantitative and qualitative data.

  • Participation in learning studies using tools such as ASER or similar.

  • Knowledge of basic data quality standards and application of ethical principles in primary data collection.

  • Experience with electronic platforms such as Kobo Collect, CommCare, ODK or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of data analysis software, ideally SPSS and STATA.

  • Good written and spoken communication in Portuguese and English.

  • Experience training and supervising field teams.

  • Availability to travel frequently to implementation districts.

It will be an advantage to have:

  • Experience in education sector projects.

  • Knowledge of a local language.

  • Previous work experience in Nampula Province.
