Save the Children is recruiting 1 Monitoring and Evaluation Manager for Matola. This role is central to ensuring reliable data, consistent analysis, and practical learning for programme management, with a direct impact on decision quality, results tracking, and the continuous improvement of interventions.
What this role involves
The Monitoring and Evaluation Manager will provide technical leadership in M&E, ensuring the production of strong evidence and high-quality information to support programme implementation. The role includes supervising the monitoring and evaluation team, coordinating with programme evaluators, and working closely with learning and management processes to build effective, results-driven feedback loops.
On a day-to-day basis, the role is expected to focus on designing and managing M&E plans and strategies, carrying out critical data analysis, and coordinating with different teams so that the information collected is useful, actionable, and aligned with programme objectives.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the selected candidate may be required to work beyond the usual scope of the role and adjust working hours in line with operational needs.
Candidate profile
The organisation is looking for candidates with advanced academic training in a quantitative field, such as economics, statistics, public health, or applied sociology, with a strong grounding in quantitative methods. Candidates with a master’s degree or equivalent and at least eight years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field and at least ten years of relevant professional field experience, will be considered.
At least eight years of experience in field programme management or in a leadership role.
Technical expertise in monitoring, evaluation, and learning applied to food and nutrition security, school feeding, and/or education programmes.
Proven experience leading M&E in large-scale programmes, including the development and management of plans and strategies.
Strong commitment to preventing fraud and mismanagement.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in Portuguese and English, including the ability to negotiate and engage effectively across different levels and cultural contexts.
Ability to work under pressure, with flexibility in working hours during emergency situations.
Willingness to travel frequently.
Experience working in English with teams based in the United States.
