The PARES project is seeking a consultant or consulting team to conduct training in visual quality control of vegetables in Milange district, Zambezia province. The opportunity is linked to a school feeding initiative implemented by CRS in partnership with World Vision, with a focus on food safety, good hygiene practices, and the supply of vegetables of suitable quality for consumption in schools.

What this consultancy involves

The work will be based on the visual checklist already developed by CRS. The goal is to equip vegetable suppliers and receivers to apply uniform quality assessment criteria, reducing differences in interpretation between schools, producer groups, and other stakeholders in the supply chain.

The consultant is expected to explain clearly and practically why visual control matters, what the risks are when the defined criteria are not met, and what benefits its application brings to food safety and project operations.

  • Conduct training activities with a methodology adapted to different levels of literacy and participant experience.

  • Use practical examples and samples linked to the visual checklist provided by CRS.

  • Define locations, group sizes, and the structure of the training sessions.

This opportunity is best suited to professionals with advanced training in Agronomy, Horticulture, Agribusiness, Rural Development, or related fields, and with proven experience in similar work in the Mozambican context.

  • Practical experience in training or technical assistance related to the quality of horticultural products.

  • Knowledge of the Zambezia and Nampula context, with preference for consultants residing in one of these provinces.

  • Experience in market systems development, especially in the vegetable value chain, will be valued.

  • Familiarity with Milange district and inclusion of a Chichewa-speaking person in the team are an added advantage.

Deliverables and applications

Main deliverables include the implementation plan with schedule and methodology, participant lists with training dates, and a detailed report with observations, recommendations, photographs, and participant feedback, in physical and digital format.
