The Role of the Project Assistant – Social Protection
TheProject Assistant – Social Protectionis a central figure in the day-to-day operationalization of HAMOZ's programs inNampula. This is a highly dynamic role that combines technical rigor, coordination capacity, and a deep human sensitivity to work with elderly populations in vulnerable contexts.
The person in this position acts as a liaison between the organization's central team, institutional partners, and beneficiary communities. Detailed Responsibilities and Duties
Technical and Operational Support for Implementation
The Project Assistant will be responsible for providingcontinuous technical and operational supportto the implementation of social protection projects in Nampula Province. This includes detailed activity planning, monitoring progress against defined indicators, and proactively identifying operational constraints that could compromise the delivery of results.
The role requires an in-depth understanding of project management cycles — from planning through to evaluation — and the ability to translate strategic plans into concrete, measurable actions on the ground. Attention to detail and a strong sense of accountability are non-negotiable qualities for this position.
Organizing Training Sessions, Meetings, and Field Missions
A significant part of the work involves thelogistical and technical organization of training sessions, coordination meetings, field missions, and other programmatic activities. The Assistant must ensure that all materials, participants, venues, and resources are properly prepared and that each event runs with maximum efficiency and impact.
This includes drafting agendas, facilitating training sessions, recording minutes, and disseminating conclusions and next steps. The ability to work with diverse groups — including community leaders, government officials, and elderly beneficiaries — is essential to success in this dimension of the role.
Data Management, Documentation, and Reporting
Therigorous collection, compilation, and management of data, documentation, and project reportsis one of the core responsibilities of this role. The Assistant must maintain organized filing systems, ensure the integrity of data collected in the field, and produce periodic progress reports with clarity, accuracy, and within established deadlines.
The quality of documentation produced is directly proportional to the organization's ability to demonstrate impact to donors, partners, and government authorities. Therefore, proficiency in written communication and familiarity with information management tools are essential requirements.
Coordination with Institutional Partners
HAMOZ operates within a complex and diverse partnership ecosystem. The Project Assistant will be responsible forensuring effective coordination with government partners— including district social welfare services —,civil society organizationsandOrganizations of Older Persons (OOPs)active in Nampula Province.
This coordination requires diplomacy, negotiation skills, and a deep respect for the different perspectives and institutional mandates involved. Building and maintaining trust-based relationships with these partners is a strategic asset for the successful implementation of projects.
Monitoring, Field Visits, and Emergency Response
The Assistant will actively participate inmonitoring and evaluation activities, conducting regular visits to districts across Nampula Province to verify implementation quality, gather evidence of impact, and identify deviations from the plan. Ideal Candidate Profile
Academic Background
- Bachelor's degree inSocial Sciences, Community Development, Management, Social Workor related field, completed and recognized by an accredited institution;
- Additional training in project management, social protection or human rights is a significant advantage.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experiencein implementing social, community development or humanitarian projects;
- Documented experience working withgovernment institutions(district services, ministries) andcivil society organizations;
- Prior experience in social protection contexts, working with elderly populations, or social transfer programs is strongly valued;
- Familiarity with implementation environments in rural and hard-to-reach areas is a relevant competitive advantage.
Technical and Transferable Skills
- High-level organizational capacity— simultaneous management of multiple activities, deadlines, and priorities;
- Strong skills inoral and written communication, with the ability to produce clear and well-structured technical reports;
- Advanced proficiency inMicrosoft Office(Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and openness to digital data management tools;
- Fluency in Portuguese(required) andproficiency in Macua(required for effective communication with local communities);
