The Strategic Impact of the Role
The Senior Underwriting Technician is the guardian of the technical and financial health of the insurance portfolio. This position transcends the analysis of isolated risks; It is a strategic management function that directly influences the company's profitability, sustainability and regulatory compliance. You will act as a focal point for decision-making, where your ability to assess complexities and anticipate scenarios will be crucial for Indico Seguros' competitive positioning.
Your day-to-day life will be dynamic and challenging, involving everything from the technical assessment of complex and multifaceted risks to the sophisticated management of reinsurance processes, both under treaties and optional. You will be responsible for ensuring that each quote issued is not only competitive, but above all safe and aligned with the organization's risk parameters.
Main Responsibilities
Joining this team means taking on a broad and deep set of tasks that require technical excellence and commercial vision. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Underwriting and Technical Assessment: Analyze and evaluate complex risks with unquestionable technical rigor, making underwriting decisions that balance commercial opportunity and actuarial security.
- Portfolio Management and Profitability: Closely monitor the evolution of the client portfolio, continuously analyzing its performance and profitability, and proposing strategic adjustments to maximize results.
- Reinsurance Management: Actively participate in reinsurance processes, negotiating and structuring both global treaties and specific optional operations, ensuring adequate protection for the risks assumed.
- Issuance and Conversion Control: Monitor the complete quote cycle, from issuance to effective conversion into policies, ensuring efficiency and optimized conversion rate.
- Relationship with Stakeholders: Develop and maintain a solid and trustworthy network with brokers, direct clients and strategic partners, becoming a reference consultant in the market.
- Compliance and Technical Leadership: Ensure that all operations are in strict compliance with current technical and regulatory standards, while supporting continuous process improvement and exercising technical leadership within the underwriting area.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for a professional with an exceptional combination of technical, analytical and interpersonal skills. Success in this role will depend on your ability to work autonomously and under pressure, always maintaining a high standard of quality and focus on results.
Mandatory Requirements
- Academic Training: Degree in Actuarial Sciences, Insurance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or an equivalent and relevant higher education area.
- Professional Certification: Having a recognized certification in the insurance area, such as Dip CII and/or ACII, is a fundamental requirement that demonstrates your commitment to professional excellence.
- Proven Experience: A minimum of 5 years of direct professional experience in the area of underwriting or an equivalent technical role in the insurance sector.
- Technical Skills: Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, high technical rigor and a demonstrated ability to make informed decisions.
- Essential Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills (written and oral), ability to work autonomously, disciplined and with a marked orientation towards concrete results.
Different Skills
- Fluency in the English language will be considered a significant advantage, given the international nature of the sector.
- Previous experience with policy management systems (core systems) and actuarial analysis software.
- In-depth knowledge of the insurance market in the Southern African region.
