The World Food Programme (WFP) is recruiting an Aviation Assistant for Pemba, Cabo Delgado. Role overview

The Aviation Assistant will be responsible for administrative and coordination activities that support WFP AFO humanitarian flight operations. The role requires operational attention, accuracy in handling flight data, and the ability to communicate with different entities, including United Nations agencies, diplomatic missions, media, and NGOs.

The vacancy is for Service Contract – Level 5, based in Pemba, Cabo Delgado and with a duration of 6 months. The position is open only to Mozambican nationals. Applications from qualified women are strongly encouraged.

Key responsibilities

  • Receive and manage flight bookings from eligible agencies traveling on WFP AFO flights.

  • Communicate UNHAS procedures and update partners whenever new guidance is issued.

  • Provide flight information and confirmations by email and phone.

  • Distribute tickets and air waybills before flights and confirm reporting and departure times.

  • Print manifests and provide the check-in desk with complete information on payments and passenger status.

  • Receive airport manifests and update the office database, including no-shows and cancellations.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the Air Operation Officers.

  • Record, process, and compile daily, weekly, and monthly reports on flight hours, aircraft status, passengers, and cargo.

  • Carry out other tasks requested by supervision.

Profile and requirements

For this role, WFP is looking for candidates with practical experience in an operational aviation environment and strong organizational, communication, and critical information management skills.

  • Education: completed secondary education. Post-secondary training in air traffic control, flight dispatch, aeronautical engineering, or a related field will be an advantage.

  • Experience: a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in aviation operations, ground handling, or related areas.

  • Languages: oral and written fluency in English and Portuguese.

  • Desirable experience: work in restricted flight zones, support in flight planning, management of passenger manifests, aircraft loading control, reading routine weather reports, and basic knowledge of flight following and radiotelephony procedures.
