Absa is hiring a Trade Sales Manager to strengthen its Trade and Working Capital team, in a role focused on commercial growth, solution structuring, and client relationship development. Reporting to the head of the function, this position is centered on identifying business opportunities, converting new revenue, and supporting existing clients, clients new to the bank, and clients new to Trade & Working Capital with solutions tailored to their financing, international trade, and working capital management needs.
Role overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving sales of trade finance and supply chain solutions across multiple business segments, acting as a product specialist in partnership with commercial teams and relationship managers. The role requires the ability to structure complex transactions, support risk assessment, and advise clients on import and export finance, supply chain optimization, and liquidity management.
Key responsibilities
Identify, develop, and close commercial opportunities with existing clients, new clients, and companies not yet covered by the team.
Create new revenue streams by selling innovative Trade & Working Capital solutions while ensuring commercial profitability.
Manage the commercial pipeline end to end, from prospecting through to deal closure.
Work closely with Relationship Managers and other areas of the bank to structure competitive proposals aligned with each client’s profile.
Take part in pricing definition and negotiation, ensuring minimum return thresholds are met.
Promote sound credit, sales, and risk practices in line with internal policies and the market’s economic and regulatory environment.
Track sector trends, market movements, and opportunities to expand transaction volumes and cross-sell business.
Collaboration and business impact
The role involves regular interaction with senior stakeholders across Coverage, Middle Office, Operations, Credit, and Portfolio Management, as well as collaboration with other product teams to deliver key transactions. Beyond the commercial dimension, the position also includes strengthening the team’s technical presence within the bank, sharing knowledge with internal teams, and contributing to the implementation of Trade & Working Capital strategic initiatives in Mozambique and across the group.
Candidate profile
Absa is looking for a candidate with a degree in Business, Commerce and Management Studies and a strong ability to develop business, understand trade products, interpret regulatory frameworks, and communicate with clients in a consultative way. The bank values someone who can uncover opportunities even in less obvious contexts, negotiate with discipline, build credibility with decision-makers, and maintain a practical, commercial, and results-driven approach focused on sustainable performance.
