The Strategic Impact of the Role
As Facilities Manager, you will be the guardian of the physical and functional integrity of the Polana Serena Hotel. Its role transcends reactive maintenance, positioning itself as a strategic partner in preserving the value of the hotel's most important asset: its space. Your every decision, from selecting a parts supplier to coordinating renovation work, directly impacts operational costs, guest satisfaction and the reputation of the Serena brand.
Your leadership will define energy efficiency, structural safety and equipment longevity. It will be the focal point for translating the hotel's operational needs into robust and sustainable technical solutions. Main Responsibilities and Mandates
Operational Management and Leadership
- Full Supervision of the Department: Lead, motivate and manage the entire maintenance team, establishing clear performance goals and promoting a culture of responsibility and continuous improvement.
- Process Optimization: Implement and refine work systems that maximize efficiency in responding to service calls, preventive maintenance and resolving emerging problems.
- Inventory and Parts Management: Manage the inventory of replacement parts and maintenance materials accurately, implementing strict controls to prevent waste, loss or misuse of resources.
Technical Excellence and Infrastructure
- Continuous Operation Guarantee: Ensure that all mechanical, electrical, plumbing and air conditioning systems in the hotel operate within the highest standards of efficiency and safety.
- Proactive Resolution: Manage equipment and facility repairs quickly, minimizing downtime and ensuring zero impact on the guest experience.
- Sustainability and Energy: Optimize energy and resource consumption, investigating and implementing more sustainable and economically viable solutions for supply and distribution.
Third Party and Supplier Management
- Strategic Relationships: Lead the process of selection, negotiation and management of relationships with contractors, suppliers and external service providers.
- Quality Control and Deadlines: Strictly monitor the work of suppliers to ensure strict compliance with agreed quality standards, safety regulations and project schedules.
- Cost-Benefit Analysis: Carry out regular reviews of contracts and suppliers to optimize cost-benefit relationships, ensuring the best value for the hotel without compromising excellence.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for a professional with a rare combination of solid technical skills and inspiring leadership. You must be an effective communicator, able to translate complex technical concepts to various stakeholders and negotiate confidently at the highest level.
Essential Requirements
- Proven Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in leadership roles in facilities management, preferably in the hotel or luxury hospitality sector.
- Technical Training: Possess relevant certifications in the area of maintenance engineering, installations or related technical fields.
- Command of English: Proficient oral and written fluency in English is mandatory for communication with international suppliers and reports.
- Management Skills: Solid experience in managing teams, budgets, contracts and infrastructure projects.
Desirable and Differentiating Skills
- In-depth knowledge of safety standards and regulations for construction and installations in Mozambique.
- Experience with building management systems (BMS) or predictive maintenance technologies.
- Advanced analytical skills for interpreting performance and energy consumption data.
- Previous experience in international hospitality environments is a significant asset.
