Agribusiness Specialist — OFEC (Zambézia)

Key Highlights: Fundação OFEC is seeking an Agribusiness Specialist to lead the technical component of the "Integrated Model for Income Diversification and Strengthening Agricultural Value Chains" project in the Namacurra and Nicoadala districts, Zambézia.

OFEC aims to implement an inclusive and financially sustainable business model in Zambézia, centered on smallholder farmers, cooperatives, and aggregators operating in the rice, maize, and bean value chains.

The project aims to diversify income streams and strengthen the economic resilience of these producers.

The intervention includes value chain assessments, business model development, capacity building and technical assistance, market linkages, partnerships, and hosting two rural business fairs.

Your position reports to the project Team Leader and focuses on strategic leadership, operational coordination, and technical supervision of the agribusiness component.

Your core responsibilities are divided into four main areas.

In the first, you participate in the assessment of rice, maize, and bean value chains, identify bottlenecks and opportunities along each chain, assess productive diversification activities, and support the identification of economically viable activities — including agro-processing, beekeeping, and poultry farming.

You also analyze the technical needs of producers and beneficiary organizations.

In the second, you develop and tailor technical training content, provide technical assistance to producers and beneficiary organizations, support the improvement of production, post-harvest, storage, and marketing practices, and promote the adoption of practices that enhance product quality.

You also identify opportunities for value addition and processing along the chain.

In the third, you support production aggregation processes, identify potential buyers and other relevant chain actors, contribute to establishing linkages among producers, aggregators, market intermediaries, and buyers, participate in organizing the two rural business fairs, and support beneficiaries in preparing for negotiations with buyers.

In the fourth, you monitor the implementation of business plans regarding production and value chain components, identify technical and production risks, propose mitigation measures, conduct regular field monitoring visits, record progress, challenges, and activity results, and contribute to the preparation of project technical reports.

Expected deliverables include the assessment of key value chains, mapping of relevant actors, identification of productive diversification opportunities, and the technical assistance plan for beneficiaries.

They also include technical training materials and content, field visit and technical assistance reports, inputs for beneficiaries' business plans, reports on linkages established with market actors, and contributions to periodic and final project reports.

OFEC requires a Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, Agriculture, or a related field, and at least three years of relevant professional experience.

Experience in agricultural value chains, technical assistance to smallholder farmers, production, post-harvest handling, value addition, and commercialization is valued.

Experience in agricultural business development, working with associations and cooperatives, and familiarity with the agricultural context of Zambézia are advantageous.

Fieldwork capacity, strong communication and facilitation skills, fluency in Portuguese, and knowledge of local languages complete the profile.
