Ayuda en Acción Mozambique is recruiting a Social Assistant – Individual Protection to work in Pemba and Mecufi, focusing on supporting people at risk, case management, and coordination with protection services. It is an opportunity for professionals with experience in humanitarian settings and social intervention, able to ensure ethical, safe, and well-coordinated responses with communities and local partners.

What this role involves

This role combines technical case management work with regular field presence. The selected person will provide direct support to beneficiaries with specific protection needs, carry out risk assessments, develop individualized action plans, and ensure referrals to relevant services, always respecting the principles of confidentiality, informed consent, safety, and non-discrimination.

  • Individual protection case management, including safety planning, psychosocial support, and referral to specialized services.

  • Provision of psychological first aid and trauma-informed support, with referral to other services when needed.

  • Accurate case documentation and use of the organization’s information management tools, with attention to data quality and protection.

  • Continuous follow-up of cases and adjustment of intervention plans as needs evolve.

  • Mapping and updating multisectoral services to facilitate safe and timely referrals.

The role is based in Pemba, with frequent travel across the region, and reports to the Protection Project Manager. Day to day, the work requires close coordination with community focal points, volunteers, protection officers, health professionals, psychologists, legal aid, and other service providers. The role also includes community awareness and capacity-building activities, helping strengthen local protection mechanisms and referral pathways.

In addition to direct intervention, the position contributes to narrative and monitoring reports aligned with organizational and donor requirements, ensuring traceability, integrity, and confidential information management.

This vacancy is suited to professionals trained in Psychology, Social Work, or related fields, ideally with additional training in GBV, Child Protection, or humanitarian protection. The organization is looking for candidates with 2 to 3 years of experience in protection case management, especially in humanitarian, emergency, or development contexts.

  • Experience in needs assessments, individualized action plans, and case follow-up.

  • Practice in the confidential handling of case files, documentation, and data protection protocols.

  • Ability to work with vulnerable populations with cultural sensitivity and an inclusive approach.

  • Knowledge of protection legal frameworks and commitment to human rights, equity, and inclusion.

  • Portuguese, Emacua, and Emaconda at native professional level; intermediate English.

It is also important to be available for travel within the country, particularly in Cabo Delgado province, and to be familiar with digital tools, email, mobile devices, and basic work software.

Conditions and application

Start is immediate. The contract is fixed-term for 12 months, with the workplace in Pemba/Metuge. Gross monthly salary ranges between 60.000,00 MZN and 75.000,00 MZN, depending on demonstrated experience and in accordance with the organization’s salary policy, subject to applicable legal deductions.
