The Ayuda en Acción Mozambique is recruiting a Protection Legal Officer for Pemba. This is an opportunity for professionals with experience in legal assistance and community protection who want to work directly on access to legal documentation, safe case referral, and strengthening local protection mechanisms, with a focus on vulnerable populations.

Start is immediate. The contract is fixed-term, for 12 months, with the workplace in Pemba. The gross monthly salary ranges between 77.500,00 MZN e 90.000,00 MZN, depending on demonstrated experience and the organization's salary policy, and is subject to applicable legal deductions. The package also includes life insurance, health insurance, and communication allowance, in accordance with the internal benefits policy.

What this role involves

Under the supervision of the Protection Projects Manager, the professional will join the protection team and play a central role in providing legal assistance. This includes sharing clear and impartial legal information, providing individual counseling, following up cases, and referring beneficiaries to legal services and administrative authorities, especially on matters related to civil and legal documentation.

In day-to-day work, the role combines technical work and field presence. Main responsibilities include:

  • Conduct group awareness sessions and individual support on legal documentation, rights, and access to justice.

  • Carry out field visits to identify legal protection needs, with particular attention to people with specific needs.

  • Identify the most vulnerable cases and ensure safe referrals, respecting principles of confidentiality and informed consent.

  • Support community protection activities and train local focal points for case identification and referral.

  • Contribute to mapping and updating legal and protection services available in the intervention areas.

Best-aligned profile

The profile sought combines relevant academic background, practical experience, and the maturity to work in demanding humanitarian contexts. The organization is looking for candidates with a degree in Law, Social Sciences, Social Work, or related fields and at least 2 years of relevant experience in the legal sector, supporting access to legal documentation, and working with vulnerable communities, ideally in NGOs or nonprofit organizations.

  • Experience in needs assessment, case follow-up, and developing individualized action plans.

  • Experience in managing safe referrals, service mapping, and data protection.

  • Experience in contexts of emergency, humanitarian crisis, forced displacement, natural disaster, or conflict.

  • Knowledge of national and international legal frameworks related to the protection of refugees, migrants, and other vulnerable populations.

  • Fluency in Portuguese, Emakhuwa and Emakonde at native professional level, as well as intermediate English.

It will also be important to be available to travel across the country, especially in Cabo Delgado province, as well as to have the ability to organize field activities, produce reports, use digital tools, and act ethically in highly sensitive environments.
