The National Institute of Health (INS) is recruiting 2 Junior Researchers in Qualitative Analysis for Health Policy and Health Systems on a 12-month contract, based at INS headquarters, with the possibility of travel within and outside the country. The role involves research activities in health systems and is specifically linked to the project on Regulation of Dual Practice (RDP) among physicians within the National Health System, with a focus on understanding the dynamics that shape how working time is divided between the public and private sectors.

Role overview

The selected professionals will support the implementation of studies in health policy and health systems, contributing to the production of scientific evidence for analysis, regulation, and decision-making. The position will play an important role in supporting the Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE) in Mozambique, analyzing the data collected, and supporting agent-based modeling (ABM), including the development of methodologies, metrics, and indicators to assess the impact of dual practice.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the development of the Discrete Choice Experiment phase in Mozambique.

  • Contribute to the collection, organization, management, and analysis of DCE data.

  • Support agent-based modeling (ABM).

  • Take part in developing metrics and indicators to assess the impact of dual practice.

  • Contribute to drafting technical reports, scientific manuscripts, and other research documents.

  • Participate in technical meetings and seminars with national and international partners.

Profile and skills

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in quantitative research applied to public health or health policy, including use of the DCE method. Experience in health systems analysis, regulation, and human resources for health is highly valued, as is previous involvement in research projects or policy evaluation. Strong command of quantitative and econometric analysis tools such as STATA, SPSS or R, the ability to work with large datasets, analytical thinking, methodological rigor, and strong synthesis skills are also expected.

The role also requires scientific writing skills in Portuguese and English, including the production of articles, reports, and manuscripts for publication. English fluency, clear communication, collaborative work in multidisciplinary teams, organization, autonomy, ability to meet deadlines, and an ethical commitment to data privacy and confidentiality are important requirements for success in this position.
