CV Mozambique Application Dossier: Document Order Guide
Organize your CV application dossier in Mozambique with the correct document order, validity checks, and formatting to land your next interview today.

If you are looking to organize your CV, ID card, certificates, and application letters into a single dossier, the short answer is: four parts, in this order — CV, copy of your ID card, certificates, and cover letter — each checked on the date you submit it. The standard dossier includes two copies of each document; your original ID card stays with you, it never leaves your hand.
When you apply for a job in Mozambique, you submit more than just a CV. Recruiters check your identity, qualifications, and the letter accompanying everything. Organizing these properly is what separates an application that gets read from one that gets set aside. In this Inademy Guide, you will find the checklist, the order, and the validity rules — the logistics of your dossier, not the content of the CV.
The short answer
Organising your CV, ID, certificates, and cover letters is a matter of logistics: there is an order, a deadline, and a submission channel. The essentials in 30 seconds:
- Four core components: CV, copy of your ID, certificates, and cover letter. If the job ad asks for more, add only what is requested.
- Fixed order: CV first, followed by the cover letter, with certificates and ID closing the set. This is the order recruiters check them in.
- Two copies of each document. You submit the copy; you keep the original. Your ID never leaves your hand.
- Validity on the submission date: certificates with an expiry date should be verified with the issuing authority on the day, not months in advance.
- Paper or digital: online, a single PDF file; in person, a physical folder. The channel specified in the job ad determines this.
- For applications abroad: apostille or consular legalisation, checked with the consulate on the application date.

The four documents that open your application file
Your CV is the document recruiters read first and carries the most weight in their decision. The local CV standard in Mozambique — 2x3 photo, place of birth, references — is covered in another guide, what to put on your CV: photo, ID card, place of birth, and references. Here, we focus only on logistics: how to fit this CV into the rest of your application file.
The BI, or national ID card, is your proof of identity. Provide a legible copy of both sides; keep the original with you and only show it if requested. It is the document Mozambican job ads usually request from the very first contact.
Certificates are your qualifications and proof of experience: diploma, course certificates, and previous work experience letters. Provide a copy of each. If the job opening asks for a "certified copy", request certification from the issuing authority before submitting it.
The cover letter rounds out the set. It is a short text connecting your documents to the specific role. It is not your CV repeated: it explains why you fit this position, this company, at this moment.
The order: a dossier is read from top to bottom
Recruiters review documents in the exact order they find them. If your CV comes first, they read about your experience and only then check your identity and qualifications. Reversing this order makes your dossier look disorganized, even when everything is included.
The sequence that works:
- CV — the decisive document; it always goes first.
- Cover letter — the connecting thread, right after.
- Educational and work experience certificates — the proof, grouped together.
- Copy of ID — identity, to close.
In a physical folder, separate the sections with divider tabs. In a digital PDF, use page breaks in the exact same order and give the file a name that describes its content. A generic "application.pdf" is the easiest mistake to avoid.
Deadlines and validity: what expires and what does not
This is where applications fail due to a lack of attention. Not every document has the same expiry period. Your CV and cover letter do not expire: you date them when you write them. Your ID card has its own validity period printed on the document. If it has expired, renew it before applying, because an expired ID card puts your entire application at risk.
Certificates such as a criminal record check or a certificate of good conduct have their own validity periods, which vary depending on the issuing authority. Don't assume a timeframe: confirm directly with the issuing body, or with the consulate when the document comes from abroad, on the submission date. An expired certificate on the day of your interview forces the process to start all over again.
If a job opening has a published application deadline, work backwards from it. Factor in the time it takes to issue each certificate and make sure that everything remains valid on the final day, not just the first.
As a reminder, your CV is not a mandatory legal document: Law No. 13/2023, of 25-08, the Mozambican Labour Code in force since 21-02-2024, does not make it a legal requirement. In practice, however, it is the de facto selection criterion, and keeping your documents valid is your responsibility.

Paper or digital: choosing the right channel
The job ad decides. When it says "send by email" or includes an online application link, submit digitally: a single PDF containing all four documents in the correct order, with a clear file name like "Application_Your_Role_Name".
Don't send four separate attachments; a single PDF opens quickly and archives easily. The structure for that email — subject line, body, and attachment — is in the guide how to send your CV by email: subject line, body, and attachment.
When the job ad asks for in-person submission, prepare the physical version: a folder containing the four printed documents, two copies of each, separated into sections. Go in the morning on a business day and ask for a receipt of delivery. Without a receipt, there's no proof that your application arrived.
With your PDF dossier on your phone, you can double-check your documents anytime — at a café in downtown Maputo or in Beira — before submitting. Having both paper and digital versions ready gives you an edge if the submission method changes at the last minute. If the job ad requires an application fee, your proof of payment — from the bank, M-Pesa, or e-Mola — goes into the dossier as an extra document.
The cover letter: when to include it in your application package
Include a cover letter whenever the job ad asks for it, or whenever there is room to stand out. Keep it short — one page at most — and specific: the company, the position, and the concrete reason why you are a good fit. A generic letter that fits every job adds no value — by the first paragraph, it's clear it wasn't written for that role.
If the job listing is strict and only asks for a CV and certificates, the letter is optional. Even so, it is worth having: it's where you show your intent. When the job ad explicitly asks for a "cover letter", it is no longer optional — it becomes the fourth mandatory document in your application package.
The application package for abroad: apostille and consulate
When you apply for a job abroad, your application package gets an extra layer: your documents must be recognised at the destination. In Mozambique, the main emigration corridor is Portugal, where you apply from here, from outside, for positions in Portuguese territory. Diplomas and certificates may require a Hague apostille or consular legalisation before they are accepted.
Don't guess timelines. Apostille requirements, certificate validity, and consular procedures vary by destination country and consulate. Confirm everything with the relevant consulate when you apply. Your CV, in Portuguese or English, is the centerpiece; supporting documents follow the destination's recognition rules.
Errors that ruin your dossier
- Four loose attachments when applying online: the standard is a single PDF; loose attachments get lost.
- Handing over your original ID card: once it leaves your hands, it might not come back; always submit a copy.
- A certificate expired on the submission date: the process starts over from scratch.
- Generic file names, like "application.pdf": the file name should state the position and your identity.
- Using the same cover letter for every job: your letter must be tailored to each process; a generic one doesn't count.
- Leaving without a receipt for in-person submissions: without a receipt, there is no proof that your dossier arrived.

- Law No. 13/2023, of 25-08 (Mozambique Labour Code, in force since 21-02-2024): the CV is not a mandatory legal document; it is a factual selection criterion. Source: Boletim da República, mtgas.gov.mz.
- Local CV standard in Mozambique (2x3 photo, place of birth, references): standard practice in Mozambican job ads, gathered on 13-09-2026.
- Validity periods for certificates and apostilles: no single published deadline; the rule is to confirm with the issuing authority or consulate on the date of submission (13-09-2026).
- MZ–PT migration corridor: applications submitted from abroad, from Mozambique, for positions in Portugal (13-09-2026).

Frequently asked questions
How many copies of each document should I bring?
Two copies of each document, on paper or as a PDF. You submit the copy and keep the originals. Your original ID card never leaves your hands — you only show it if asked.
Do CVs and cover letters expire?
No. You write them on the date of application, and they remain valid for as long as the job opening is active. What actually expires are certificates with specific validity periods — check them on the date you apply, not before.
Does a criminal record certificate have an expiration date?
Yes, and the timeframe varies depending on the issuing authority. Don't assume a timeframe: verify directly with the issuing authority, or with the consulate for foreign documents, on the submission date.
Should I submit on paper and also by email?
Submit using the channel specified in the job ad. If it doesn't specify, do both: a PDF by email and a physical folder with a delivery receipt. Having both versions ready gives you an edge.
Do I need an apostille for Portugal?
Applications abroad may require a Hague apostille or consular legalization on diplomas and certificates. Requirements and timeframes vary by consulate: check with the relevant consulate on your application date.
What if the job ad doesn't ask for a cover letter?
The cover letter becomes optional, but it's still worth including: it's where you show your intent. If there's an opportunity to stand out, use it.
