A CV template is the right framework with blank spaces — and your job is to fill them with real facts. In Mozambique, free Word and PDF templates are available in one- to two-page formats, featuring the sections recruiters and screening systems look for.
This article is part of the Inademy Guide, where you will find practical answers for every stage of your job search in Mozambique.

The short answer
The best CV templates are simple: a single column, one simple font, standard section headings, and whitespace. The template is the packaging — the content is yours: profile, experience, education, skills, and languages, across one or two pages, in PDF.
- Single column, no sidebars — the format reading systems accept without errors.
- Standard section headings — "Work Experience", "Education", "Skills", "Languages".
- One to two pages, in PDF — as recommended by a Mozambican job portal (15-09-2025).
- No extra personal information — the ID number (BI) and tax ID (NUIT) belong in the contract stage, not on the CV.
- Template ≠ content — the most attractive template does not replace what you write.
What makes a good CV template
A good template has three qualities: it is readable, simple, and uses headings everyone recognizes. A template full of colors, boxes, and icons might look modern, but it is exactly the type of document that automated screening systems and busy recruiters struggle most to read. Our guide to CVs for automated screening systems shows the right format.
A Mozambican job portal was direct about this in October 2025: prefer simple templates with clear text and few graphic elements. And the right format is a single column, top to bottom, where the text reads like a story: first who you are, then what you did, then what you know.
A detail many people miss: the template must not contain information that isn't yours. If the template says "Full Name", "City", and "Professional Email", fill in everything — a CV with blank fields is worse than a simple template.
The two main formats — and when to use each
There are two main CV formats, and choosing the right one makes a difference:
- Reverse-chronological format — your most recent experience appears first. It is the format recruiters read fastest because your recent background is right at the top, where it is seen immediately. Ideal for anyone with work experience.
- Functional format — organizes the CV by skills, not work dates. It works for people changing careers or with employment gaps, but it is less recommended: it takes more effort to read.
The rule of thumb: if you have experience, use reverse-chronological. If you are starting out, use the same format with your education highlighted — never default to functional.
The sections a CV template should have
A well-crafted Mozambican CV template includes these sections, in this order:
- Name and contact details — at the top, without a full address: mobile phone, professional email, and city.
- Profile summary — two or three lines: who you are professionally and what you are looking for.
- Work experience — company, job title, dates, and duties with results. From most recent to oldest.
- Education — degree, institution, and completion year.
- Skills — technical skills and those required for the job: IT, tools, languages, driver's license.
- Languages — Portuguese, English, and others; local languages count too.
And what not to include: ID number (BI), tax ID (NUIT), parents' names, place of birth, and marital status. A Mozambican job portal (15-09-2025) is clear: do not include your ID number on your CV — this data belongs to the contracting phase.
The law supports this: Article 8 of Law 13/2023 protects your personal data during hiring. And for details on the errors that get a CV rejected, check out the article on mistakes that eliminate your CV.

Where to find free CV templates
You don't need to pay for a template. In Mozambique, there are good options:
- A Mozambican job portal — provides free downloadable CV and cover letter templates in Word, alongside its application guides.
- Document apps — Google Docs and mobile Word come with ready-made templates in Portuguese; choose the simplest one, never the most decorated.
- CV apps — build the document for you, but pay attention: the design is theirs, the content is yours. Never let an app fill in your experience for you.
- Your school or training center template — many have a standard format that local companies already know.
Whatever the source, the check is the same: open the PDF on your phone, see if it has a single column, if the headings are standard, and if nothing got cut off.

How to adapt a template without ruining it
You downloaded a template — now it's your CV. The adaptation process:
- Delete everything that isn't yours. Sample names, sample cities, fictional companies: get rid of them. A CV with "Firstname Lastname, Maputo" submitted to a company is the first thing that gets an application rejected.
- Fill in the profile with your own case. Two or three lines, no empty buzzwords. What you are looking for, what you know, how much experience you have.
- Adjust headings if the job requires it. If the job ad mentions "Customer Service", your CV should highlight that skill — but don't change standard headings just to be creative.
- Keep the template's font and size. One font, one size, from start to finish. Don't mix fonts just because you copied a line from another document.
- Export as a PDF and name it after yourself. "FirstnameLastname_CV.pdf" — never "final template (3).doc".

How to choose and adapt your CV template
A CV template is the starting point, but it is not enough. What matters is adapting it to the position, experience, and industry.
There is the classic block layout for those with solid experience, and the modern layout highlighting skills for those just starting out.
Choose the template that best presents your career path, and adapt the experience section to the position you are applying for.
Keep both formats, Word and PDF, so you can submit the right version for each application.
If you are applying to multiple fields, maintain a specific template for each area. This specialization shows that you are thinking about the role and supports your application.
In the end, a good template is one the recruiter can read in 30 seconds, where your experience stands out.
A good template also includes a skills section with mastered tools and core competencies, showing in just a few lines what you can do.
Also adapt the education section to your experience level so that, within those 30 seconds, the recruiter understands what you can bring to the position.
Proofread the template before sending it, ensuring there are no errors or empty sections that could weaken your application.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I download a free CV template?
On a Mozambican job portal offering Word templates, in document apps (Google Docs, mobile Word), and in CV builder apps. The recommended format is one to two pages, single-column, sent as a PDF.
Word or PDF template?
Both: keep a Word version for editing and a PDF version for sending. PDF preserves formatting on any mobile device; Word is for when a company specifically requests it.
Can I use a template with a photo?
Yes, if the job listing asks for a photo. A template with a photo should only be used when it makes sense for the industry or when explicitly requested in the job ad.
Can the template have two columns?
It is not recommended. Automated screening systems and recruiters read single-column layouts better, from top to bottom. Two-column templates are also the most likely to get misaligned or cut off on mobile screens.
Do I need a different template for each job opening?
No — you need to adapt the SAME template for each role. Rearrange your skills, highlight what the job ad asks for, and adjust your profile summary. The template is the skeleton; tailoring is what gets your application through.
My template has "References available upon request". Should I leave it?
Yes. That is the correct approach: do not clutter your CV with third-party contact details. When the company asks for specific references, provide them on a separate page — with permission from the people you list.
A template is a starting point, not a shortcut. If you want the full process, the complete guide to making a CV in Mozambique covers all 8 steps, examples, and legal details — and Inademy sends you new job openings via WhatsApp and email.
