The shelf stocker and cashier CV template is a one-page document with sections in the right order: header, objective, experience, skills, education, and availability. You don't need years of experience.
What gets you past screening is a CV showing you are organized, honest, good with numbers, and available for shift work. Below, you will find the template, section order, details to highlight for each role, and a free Word download.
This guide is for anyone starting out in retail — or making the jump to the store floor — who wants a hassle-free, ready-to-use CV. You can use this same template to apply for shelf stocker, cashier, checkout assistant, or grocery stocker positions.

What retail recruiters look for
Before you fill out the template, learn what recruiters look at first. These five points can carry even more weight than your experience itself.
Attention to detail and responsibility
You handle money and stock. A mistake on your part — wrong change, missing goods, poor records — comes at a direct cost to the store. Recruiters look for signs of responsibility: turning up on time, staying organised, taking care of what you handle.
Basic maths and financial awareness
As a cashier, you need quick math skills, accurate change, and till balancing at the end of the day. As a shelf stocker, you need an eye for quantities, weighing, and inventory. You do not need to be an accountant. You just need to get the numbers right every time.
POS systems and inventory
A POS is the checkout till where totals are calculated and sales are closed. If you have used one, mention it on your CV. For shelf stockers, inventory tracking and shelf stocking matter. Even understanding what a POS does opens doors.
Customer service
Patience, warmth, and speed. At the till, every customer is an opportunity. Good service keeps customers coming back. Bad service loses them. Show that you enjoy working with people.
Shift availability
This is often what separates who gets hired from who does not. Stores open early, close late, and operate on weekends and public holidays. If you are flexible, say so upfront on your CV. In retail, availability is a key screening factor.

The template — sections in the right order
Follow this order. It is what retail recruiters read first, and it makes your CV easier to complete on a mobile phone.
1. Header
Full name, phone number, and city. Just the city is enough — you do not need your full address or ID number at the top. Add an email address if you want. Keep it clean, in one or two lines.
2. Objective
One line, tailored to the job role: "Shelf stocker and cashier, available for shift work, seeking a stable opportunity to grow." Adapt it to the specific role you are applying for — stocker and cashier roles require different focus points. If you are not sure what to write, check out 20 examples of what to write in your CV objective by profile.
3. Experience
Even informal experience counts: open-air market, local store, street vendor, internship. Use action verbs — "stocked aisles", "operated tills", "conducted inventory", "served customers". Quantify whatever you can: number of tills, shift pattern, store size. Two or three of your most relevant experiences are enough.
4. Skills
List the skills you have, one by one: attention to detail, basic maths, POS system operation, inventory, customer service, shift availability. Only include what you can prove. Recruiters will check at the end.
5. Education
Grade 12, training courses in retail, finance, or IT, internships. A training course is an added bonus, not a requirement. If you do not have one, do not make it up.
6. Availability
Shifts (morning or night), weekends, public holidays, and location. For retail, this is gold. Clearly state what you can do and where you can work.
Full CV Example to Guide You
This is a realistic draft, already tailored for a store position. Copy the format and replace it with your own details. The key point is the structure, not the names.
Name: Maria Machel
Phone: +258 84 123 456 · City: MaputoObjective — Cashier and shelf stocker, available for shifts, weekends and public holidays, seeking a stable opportunity to grow.
Experience
— Operated two tills at a Maputo supermarket and closed out the cash register at the end of the day (2024–2025).
— Restocked aisles and managed inventory at a local grocery store on the morning shift (2023–2024).Skills — Attention to detail, basic maths, POS system usage, inventory and stock replenishment, customer service.
Education — Grade 12; retail training course (three-month internship).
Availability — Morning and night shifts, weekends and public holidays; available immediately.
Notice that every single line proves something. If you have less formal experience, fill the space with informal work — open-air markets, local grocery stores, market stalls — and your availability.
What to highlight for each role
Use the same template, but shift the focus. A shelf stocker and a cashier carry different responsibilities, and your CV should reflect the exact role you are applying for. The summary below shows what to emphasize for each position.
Shelf stocker
Highlight: shelf replenishment, inventory checks, stock control, product weighing, and warehouse organization. If you have worked in logistics or a warehouse, mention it. Recruiters want to know that you notice an empty shelf and act quickly so the store does not lose sales due to out-of-stock items.
Cashier
Highlight: till balancing, handling change, customer service, customer loyalty programs, and POS terminal usage. If you have operated registers before, state it along with how many. When handling money, a mistake costs the store money — recruiters are looking for trustworthiness.
Ready-to-copy phrases
Copy and adapt them. They are examples of what works in this type of retail application.
For the objective
- "Shelf stocker available for morning and night shifts, with experience restocking shelves and taking inventory."
- "Cashier experienced in handling cash and closing registers, looking for a store to grow with."
For experience
- "Restocked aisles and conducted inventory checks at a grocery store in Maputo during the morning shift."
- "Operated checkouts at a supermarket and closed the register at the end of the day."
For availability
- "Available for morning shifts, night shifts, weekends, and public holidays."
- "Based in Matola, available to work in Maputo or Matola."
How to format your CV in Word
Format matters too. A clean, easy-to-read CV shows you are organised — and that counts in retail.
Font and readability
Use a simple font (Arial or Calibri), size 11 or 12. Make your name slightly larger. Avoid decorative fonts and flashy colours. In retail, professionalism comes first.
Margins and keeping it to one page
Standard margins (2.5 cm all around). If your experience is brief, one page is enough — and actually better. Don't stretch out your CV just to make it longer; cut anything that doesn't add proof.
Check before sending
Read it out loud to catch typos and ask someone else to review it. Save it as a PDF before sending: a PDF won't lose its formatting on a recruiter's phone. If the job ad asks for Word, send the .docx file.

Mistakes that get your CV rejected
- Adjectives without proof — writing "responsible, dedicated, punctual" without a supporting fact. Replace every adjective with a fact or a number.
- Lying about numbers or experience — recruiters check your details; the truth, even if modest, always wins.
- Not showing availability for shift work — in retail, this is a key screening filter.
- A generic CV used for everything — tailor your objective to the specific role; shelf stockers and cashiers require different highlights.
- Overcrowded pages — one page is enough; cut out everything that does not prove your value.

Frequently asked questions
I've never worked in a store. Can I apply?
Yes. Highlight any experience working with people — markets, fairs, street sales — along with your availability. Most retail recruiters train on the job. What truly counts is your attitude and flexibility.
Do I need a specific course?
No. Grade 12 is enough. A course in finance, retail, or IT is a plus, not a requirement.
How many work experiences should I include?
The two or three most relevant ones. Don't fill the page with everything. If it doesn't prove anything, cut it out.
What is a POS system?
POS (point of sale) is the store checkout system — the screen and register used to process sales and daily closures. If you've used one before, mention it on your CV. If you haven't, write "ready to learn".
Do I need to put my ID number on my CV?
It's not mandatory at the top. Put your city and phone number. Your ID number comes in when the recruiter asks for documentation, not on the front page.
Should I put a photo on a shelf stocker CV?
Many stores in Mozambique accept a small photo in the corner. If the job posting asks for one, include it. If it doesn't, you can leave just the header. Content matters more than a photo.
