Are you looking for an English CV template in Word ready to fill in? You don't need to start from scratch: our free file (English CV template in Word, in .docx format) opens in Word or Google Docs, includes all the sections of an international CV, and gives you a professional CV ready to send in just five steps.
This guide walks you through the template section by section and explains which job vacancies in Mozambique require English.
English is no longer a luxury: it is a requirement across entire sectors of the Mozambican job market. In the NGO and development sector alone, 30 of the 126 open vacancies on the Inademy platform (September 2026) come from international and development aid organisations — the sector with the highest demand for English CVs in the country.
When to use an English CV in Mozambique
You don't need to speak fluent English: for local job openings, an intermediate level is usually enough, as long as you state it honestly on your CV. Still, there are three situations where an English version becomes mandatory.
1. International organisations and NGOs. This is the most common case: development, cooperation, humanitarian programmes, and multilateral organisations publish their job openings in English and ask for CVs in the same language. On Inademy, NGO job openings are mostly concentrated in Maputo, but they also appear in Beira and Pemba.
2. Tourism, hospitality, and catering. Resorts, hotels, and restaurants along the Maputo–Vilanculos–Tofo corridor work with international guests and multicultural teams. English opens doors for reception, events, and management roles. If you want to enter this sector, read our hospitality and tourism career guide in the Guide.
3. Banking, multinationals, and international projects. Banks, insurance companies, telecoms operators, and major energy and construction projects (including the gas projects in Cabo Delgado) recruit using English-language hiring processes, especially for technical and management roles.
And there is a fourth case many people forget: international job openings — Portugal, South Africa, Gulf countries — where your CV must be in English (or the local language) long before you reach the interview stage.
As for your English level, state it honestly in the Skills section: basic (you understand the essentials), intermediate (you read and write with errors, and speak with some difficulty), advanced (you work in English effortlessly), and fluent (you communicate naturally in almost all situations). Most Mozambican job openings require an intermediate level or higher; what hurts candidates is inflating their skill level only to struggle in the interview.
What is included in the template
The English CV template in Word format is designed in an international style: single column, clear hierarchy, and clean typography. It consists of six sections, in this order:
- Contact — city, phone/WhatsApp, email. No full home address, date of birth, or marital status.
- Professional Summary — three to four lines summarizing your years of experience, industries, and one or two key achievements with numbers.
- Work Experience — job title, company, location, dates, and two to three sentences per role, always starting with an action verb and ending with a result.
- Education — qualification, institution, and year. The Mozambican equivalent: Grade 12 with grades or a bachelor's degree.
- Skills — core skills, software (Excel, systems, languages), and your English proficiency level, stated honestly (intermediate, advanced, fluent).
- References — "Available upon request", the standard practice in international CVs.
All information in the file is sample data. At the top, it reads: Sample data — replace everything with your actual details before sending. It serves as a reminder: no employer should ever see another applicant's name on your CV.

How to fill it in, step by step
Step 1 — Download the file. English CV template in Word (free, .docx). Open it in Word or, if you prefer a free cloud option, in Google Docs (File → Import document).
Step 2 — Replace all sample data. Name, contact details, companies, dates, and numbers. Make sure no trace of the sample text remains, even in the document history (Word saves versions; delete them before sending).
Step 3 — Write each experience as an achievement. Instead of "responsible for sales", write "grew sales by 15% in a year" or "trained a team of 6 new employees". Verb + number + timeframe. If you don't have exact numbers, use concrete details: "managed 3 stores", "processed 40 daily cases".
Step 4 — Keep it to one page. Up to ten years of experience: one page. After that, two pages at most. The Professional Summary is the first section to cut if you run out of space.
Step 5 — Save as a PDF before sending. The Word file may not open correctly on the recipient's computer. A PDF keeps the layout intact. And when sending it by email, the subject line and message body matter just as much as the attachment.
How it differs from a Portuguese CV
A local Mozambican CV usually includes more personal details: photo, place of birth, date of birth, marital status, and full references. The English template follows international standards and leaves these fields out — on purpose.
- Photo: the template has no space for a photo. If the role is Mozambican and asks for a photo, add one in the top right corner; if it is for an international organisation, keep it without a photo.
- References: in English, the standard phrase is "available upon request". In Mozambique, many companies prefer two full references (name, job title, contact details) — you can and should include them in the Portuguese version; in the international style, provide them only on request.
- Languages: in an English CV, languages appear under Skills; in a Portuguese CV, they usually have their own dedicated section.
The practical takeaway: keep two versions — a local one in Portuguese and an international one in English — and adapt them to each job. The guide on how to write an English CV with examples gives you core phrases for every section.
Mistakes that disqualify an English CV

There are five mistakes we frequently see in CVs sent to companies in Mozambique:
- Literal translation. Repeating "Responsible for" on everything. Use strong action verbs: managed, led, reduced, trained, launched.
- Zero numbers. A CV without results looks like a course syllabus. Every role needs at least one concrete data point.
- Made-up English level. Writing "fluent" when you are intermediate will cost you the job at the interview, where a test is inevitable. State your actual level.
- Pages full of blank space. Layouts break when you change fonts or paste text. Adjust margins and line spacing at the end, not at the beginning.
- Typos. The most disqualifying mistake in English is a typo. Print it out, read it out loud, or ask someone to proofread it before submitting.
Beyond the CV: how Inademy helps you
An English CV gets you through the door, but applying is where most candidates fall behind. On Inademy, the process is simple: choose a job, apply in just a few clicks, and the company receives your profile directly — with no application fees.
If you are starting out with no experience, the mobile CV guide shows you the shortcut, and the full list of free templates — from first-job CVs to experienced profiles — is available in the Mozambique CV templates hub.
The perfect match: English CV + three-line letter
When applying to international organisations, your CV almost always goes with a three- to five-sentence email: who you are, what you are looking for, and why you chose that organisation.
You don't need to write a long letter — concrete details are what persuade: a tangible result from your work, a number, or a specialization requested for the role. Our cover letter guide has ready-to-use sentences you can adapt, and the email guide shows the correct subject line.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use the same CV in Portuguese and English?
Yes, but do not translate it word-for-word. Rewrite the English version from scratch, using the same facts and examples adapted to industry terminology. Many candidates keep both versions updated in the same file and export whichever one matches the job application.
How long should an English CV be?
One page for up to ten years of experience; two pages maximum for longer careers. Trim any extra content from your Professional Summary first, and then from your oldest experience. Remember: recruiters at international organisations skim a CV in thirty seconds — if the most important details do not appear in the top half of the page, they will not read the rest.
Should I include a photo on an English CV?
Not in the international standard — which is why our template follows this rule. For Mozambican job openings that request a photo, add a professional headshot in the top-right corner and keep everything else the same. The same photo from your Portuguese CV works well, as long as it is high quality and has a neutral background.
Can I fill out the template on a mobile phone?
You can use Google Docs (import the .docx file and edit it in the app) or Microsoft Word mobile. To protect your formatting, editing on a computer is still the safest option — you can find the step-by-step instructions in the mobile CV guide.
What if I do not have work experience yet?
Use the same template and fill the experience section with internships, volunteering, academic projects, or temporary work, sticking to the verb + outcome rule. The first job CV guide includes concrete examples.
