What you will do

This is a marine piloting position: you will guide vessels calling at the project facility (MOF), from channel approach and navigation to port movements, operating on a 24/7 basis for both hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon vessels. The job posting outlines seven main responsibilities:

• Channel Piloting: ensure adequate Under Keel Clearance and adhere to good marine practices and the guidelines of the international maritime pilots' association (IMPA) at all times;
• Port Piloting: take responsibility for the safe berthing and unberthing of all vessels, with tug support, 24/7 and unsupervised, within established parameters;
• Team Leadership: instruct the Berthing Master and advise the Ship Master, ensuring vessel maneuvering and the safety of the vessel, terminal equipment, and all personnel within the concession area jurisdiction;
• Port Representation: act as operational representative on all vessels, ensuring safe operations;
• Emergency Preparedness: master and apply emergency procedures, acting as first responder and on-scene commander until relieved;
• Facility Development: support, as a subject-matter expert, the preparation of documentation regarding marine operations requirements — tugs, pilot boats, dry docks — and new projects;
• Training: train national staff and new recruits as designated by the operations manager.

Decisions in this role have a significant financial impact on port facilities, shipping companies, and associated industries. You work completely independently: in emergency situations, you make immediate decisions without reference to senior personnel to prevent or minimize loss of life, environmental damage, and property damage.

You assess observed meteorological conditions and decide whether channel transit is executed or aborted — piloting may occur under adverse conditions, at your discretion, within port parameters.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a pilot holding a Mozambique pilot license and real sea experience — this is not a desk job. Work is conducted on an on-call basis with irregular and unsocial hours, including weekends and holidays. If you possess technical mastery of piloting, composure to decide under pressure, and experience in large-scale port operations, this role is for you.
