The essentials: A 4-month internship in Operations Support at the IFRC, based in Maputo, to help with the response to the floods emergency in Mozambique. Applications run until 4 November 2026 and are made through the IFRC's official careers portal.
The IFRC — the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies — is the global federation of the Red Cross, with hundreds of national societies and a central role in coordinating the international humanitarian response. In Mozambique, it works together with the Mozambique Red Cross Society, the national society, to bring help to people in crisis.
This internship exists for a concrete response: the recent floods have left families without their livelihoods, without clean water and with their health at risk. The team you will reinforce is in the field coordinating livelihood, water and sanitation and health actions, and strengthening the capacity of the Mozambique Red Cross Society to reach those who need it most.
We are looking for someone with motivation for humanitarian work and a good foot in operations: someone who will not sit on the sidelines when a document needs validating or a travel order needs preparing. The role is an internship, in other words a starting point — what we care about is your willingness to learn quickly, how you organise the day to day, and the calm with which you work under pressure. If you already like data and having everything in writing, you will be in your element.
Availability for travel within the country, including to field areas, is part of the role — the response to the floods does not stay only in Maputo.
The work is administrative and operational support to the IFRC Operations team. Concretely, you will:
In an emergency operations internship, the CV should show your ability to stay organised: documents, deadlines, travel orders, payments.
Highlight experience with data collection and management, with Excel and with programme support, and fluency in Portuguese and English. Show your availability for the field and some humanitarian background, if you have it. A direct, well-organised CV with no generic filler gets further in triage than one stuffed with adjectives.
The application is made through the IFRC's official careers portal. Find the position with reference S18942 at careers.ifrc.org and follow the application process there. The deadline is 4 November 2026.
