The role
The job posting defines a yard supervisor with a dual specialty: ensuring that company and customer OCTG materials are received, handled, stored, and delivered in perfect condition, with complete traceability throughout the storage period, and acting as the yard's lifting specialist for the safe planning, coordination, and supervision of routine pipe movement and lifting activities.
The role requires coordinating third-party logistics personnel in accordance with Vallourec and client QHSE procedures, policies, standards, and requirements, and includes managing inventory records, contributing to safe, high-quality, effective, and efficient handling.
OCTG receipt, storage, and delivery
- Ensure OCTG products are controlled from receipt through storage to dispatch, in compliance with planning, customer requirements, and applicable standards.
- Receive OCTG products and services according to the plan and protect their integrity during the receiving process.
- Ensure received pipes are tagged, identified, and inspected before storage.
- Maintain OCTG materials in perfect condition during storage and apply FIFO (first in, first out) to internal movements and deliveries.
- Ensure loading and unloading are executed correctly so that the right product is delivered in perfect condition on time.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise routine yard lifting and pipe movement activities, including loading, unloading, stacking, internal transfers, and dispatch.
- Confirm lifting activities are prepared with suitable equipment, lifting accessories, defined load weights, and safe exclusion zones prior to starting work.
Inventory, traceability, and equipment control
- Maintain complete and accurate inventory information and ensure full traceability of OCTG material held in the yard.
- Manage inventory and provide accurate and complete storage reports.
- Ensure traceability of all OCTG material throughout the storage period using pipe-tag technology.
- Ensure associated traceability equipment is maintained in good working condition.
- Maintain tools, consumables, and equipment, optimizing consumable usage to reduce waste.
QHSE, contractor supervision, and performance
- Coordinate safe and efficient yard activity, including direct operational supervision of third-party logistics personnel.
- Ensure logistics processes and procedures deliver a high level of service safely, without environmental impact, and in compliance with company QHSE rules and procedures.
- Ensure third-party logistics personnel work safely, correctly, and within the limits of their training and competence.
- Lead pre-job safety briefings (toolbox talks), yard coordination, supplier evaluations, performance KPI management, and job traceability.
- Ensure operations comply with company and customer safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Report incidents and support the Service Base Manager and QHSE Officer with weekly and monthly operational reports.
- Act as the yard focal point for lifting operations, ensuring lifting equipment and accessories are inspected, certified, identifiable, and operated within rated capacities.
- Verify that operators, banksmen, and slingers/signallers involved in lifting activities are trained, competent, and authorized for the task.
- Lead or support task risk assessments, lifting plans, and pre-lift safety briefings, and stop work when lifting conditions or controls are unsafe.
- Escalate non-routine, complex, or high-risk lifts to the Base Manager and designated lifting authority prior to execution.
