Free Cover Letter Template in Word
Download the free cover letter template in Word and apply for any job in Mozambique in minutes: structure, practical example, and mistakes to avoid.

If you need a cover letter to apply for a job in Mozambique, here is a free, ready-to-edit Word template. The document already comes with the complete structure: recipient, subject line, three concrete points, and a professional closing. It takes less than 10 minutes to adapt to your profile and fits on one page.
In the Inademy Guide, you already have the file Cover Letter Template in Word (.docx) and, further below, a paragraph-by-paragraph explanation of how to fill it out. The cover letter is the document that connects your CV to the specific job vacancy: while the CV tells your history, the letter explains why you are the right fit for that position.
The short answer
- The cover letter template is in Word (.docx) and is free — download it, replace the sample data with your own, and save.
- One page is the limit. The letter in the template is about 150 words; do not exceed that.
- A clear subject line. The letter title should specify the position: "Application for the position of [job title]".
- Three points with numbers. The template shows how to replace empty praise with facts: team managed, deadlines met, results achieved.
- The letter goes with the CV. It is requested by the job posting — if the ad does not ask for it, the resume is enough.
What a cover letter is (and is not)
A cover letter is a one-page document that accompanies your CV. It has one job: to tell the recruiter, on a single page, why you want to apply for that position and which three aspects of your background match what the company is looking for.
What it is not: a repetition of your CV, a list of everything you have ever done, or a love letter to the company. Anyone opening an application wants to answer one question — "why this person?" — and the cover letter answers it right on that page. In Mozambique, where many applications arrive with dozens of identical CVs on the same day, the cover letter is what sets yours apart from the crowd.
There are three similar documents that people often confuse:
- Cover letter — responds to a specific job opening, with the position title in the subject line. This is the one in our template.
- Unsolicited application letter — sent without a job post, to an employer you are interested in; it is shorter and focuses on the question "what problem can I solve for you?".
- Motivation letter — requested more often for internships and entry-level programs; the focus is on the eagerness to learn and connection to the organization's goals.
Our template is the first type, the most commonly used for advertised job vacancies. If you are looking for the third type, here is the motivation letter for internships and entry-level jobs, with examples ready to adapt.
Read the job posting three times before writing
The cover letter is born from the job posting, not from you. Before picking up the template, read the advertisement three times and underline what the company is truly requesting: skills, years of experience, tools, shift, location. A customer service opening does not use the same words as a construction site opening. The letter that works reflects the words of the ad with your own facts.
Also note the name of the department or person receiving the application. A letter addressing a generic "Dear Sir/Madam" works; one that addresses "Head of the Human Resources Department, [company], [branch]" shows that you read the job post to the end.
The template paragraph by paragraph
The Word template has five sections, in the exact order the recruiter reads them:
- Location and date. Maputo, with the submission date. Keep the current date — a letter dated from another month suggests it was saved and reused.
- Recipient. The title and company. If the job ad doesn't give a name, use the decision-maker's title: "Head of the Human Resources Department".
- Subject. Always: "Application for the position of [job title]". It is the line the recruiter sees first and what sets your letter apart from others in their file.
- Body with three key points. The first sentence names the vacancy and where you saw it; the three points follow, each with a number or fact — team of 8 people, deadlines met within 12 months, sales, quality. In the template, these numbers come from a sample profile to show you the format.
- Closing. State that you are attaching your resume, that you are available for an interview, and leave your phone and email. One line, without promising anything the company didn't ask for.
At the bottom of the document, there is a notice warning: the sample data is fictitious and must be replaced. Do not send the letter with the sample profile name — that is what causes applications to be dropped during screening.
Practical example: the letter included in the template
To see the format in practice, the template includes a full cover letter, written for the fictitious vacancy of "Branch Manager" at a sample micro-enterprise. It is a practical example, with invented data for demonstration — read it to understand the flow, not to copy.
Maputo, September 11, 2026
Dear Madam,
Head of the Human Resources Department
Microbanco MAIS, S.A. — Matola Branch
Subject: Application for the position of Branch Manager
I am writing to apply for the position of Branch Manager, advertised on the Inademy platform. I have 8 years of experience in store management and retail customer service, currently working as Operations Manager, and my profile matches what you are looking for:
Team management — coordinated teams of 6 to 12 employees.
Cash and inventory control — reduced stockouts from 9% to 3% in 18 months.
Customer service and conflict resolution — years of front-desk service dealing with a diverse public.
I attach my CV for your consideration. I am available for an in-person interview in Matola or Maputo at your earliest convenience, and you can contact me at 82 766 8658 or via email at zandameleinacio@gmail.com / info@inademy.com.
Sincerely,
Inácio Tomás Manhisse
Notice what the example shows. The three key points contain numbers: 8 years, 6 to 12 employees, 9% to 3% in 18 months. These are facts verifiable in an interview, not generic adjectives. The closing is short and logistical: availability and contact information.
How to adapt the template to your profile
The process takes 10 minutes, in the order shown here:
- Replace all sample data. Name, contact details, company, job position. Search the document for the phrase "sample data" — everything in the marked fields is fictitious.
- Write the first sentence with the exact job title. The position title comes from the advertisement, word for word. If the ad says "Quality Control Technician", the letter must say exactly that.
- Rewrite the three points with your own figures. Don't have 8 years of experience? Use what you have: completed internships, school or university projects, volunteer work, organized informal work. The format is the same: skill + verifiable fact.
- Fit it onto one page. Double line spacing, standard margins, font size 11. If it exceeds one page, trim the introductory sentence of each point, never the numbers.
- Export to PDF before sending. The template is in .docx format so you can edit it; the file you submit should be a PDF, so the layout doesn't shift on a recruiter's mobile phone.
If you are starting from scratch and not just from the template, the complete CV guide for 2026 covers the other half of the pair — the cover letter is the door, the CV is the house.
Mistakes that get your cover letter discarded
Most cover letters don't fail due to a lack of talent; they fail due to haste. These are the recurring mistakes we see in applications at Inademy:
- Wrong company name. You apply to the Matola branch and the letter mentions headquarters — or worse, leaves the company name from a previous application. Read the recipient line one last time.
- "I am writing this letter to request an opportunity" — generic phrasing that mentions neither the position nor the company. The subject line solves this: specify the job position.
- Praise without facts. "I am hard-working and responsible" proves nothing; "completed 12 months without a single delay" does.
- A 3-page letter. The recruiter reads the first page; whatever follows goes unread. One page, always.
- Missing or incorrect contact details. An unreachable phone number gives an impression of disorganization. Test the number before sending.
- You copied the template and submitted it with sample data. Having the name "Inácio Tomás Manhisse" on your cover letter is the costliest error on this list — the letter will be rejected during screening at first glance.
Take a final look at the file after editing: your name, correct job title, correct company, your contact info, one page. If everything is in order, send it.
The cover letter and CV: the complete pair
The two documents handle different aspects and cannot replace each other. The CV is the record: education, experience, dates, in a format that any company can verify. The letter is the argument: it explains why that background is relevant to that specific job opening.
In practice, the pair works like this: the cover letter states the facts, the CV supports them. When the recruiter reads "reduced stockouts from 9% to 3%", the CV must show the relevant experience, with dates and job title, so the fact can be verified. A promising cover letter without support in the CV loses credibility in seconds.
Don't have a CV ready? Start with the first-job CV template. All templates in the free Word and PDF hub feature the same sample data, allowing you to update everything at once.
When you don't need a cover letter
There are applications where a separate cover letter is unnecessary. If you are applying via a simple email with your resume attached, the email body serves as the cover letter — short, with the subject "Application for [job title]" and three brief lines.
If the position is submitted through a company online form, the form fields replace the cover letter. A one-page cover letter is required when the job posting explicitly asks for a "cover letter" or "motivation letter" — that is where the Word cover letter template saves you from starting from scratch.
How Inademy helps you
When you apply for a job on Inademy, the platform receives your PDF resume and cover letter, if required, within the same application workflow. You create a free profile, upload your documents once, and subsequent applications take just minutes.
When your profile is active, new job openings matching your sector are sent directly to your email and WhatsApp — you don't need to constantly monitor job portals. If a listing has a deadline, it is published directly on the job post, and applying is always free.
The guide Job application letter for vacancies in Mozambique covers the letter itself; the Word template here is the tool to get it written in 10 minutes. And when you are ready to send it to an actual recruiter, current job openings show application methods and deadlines for each posting.

Where these figures come from
- Word Template — the file carta_apresentacao_vaga.docx (September 2026 version), featuring the note "Sample data — replace everything with your real details before sending."
- Sample numbers (8 years, 6 to 12 employees, 9% to 3%) — come from the sample profile within the template itself; they serve to demonstrate the format and are not market data.
- Application practice in Mozambique — the one-page format with a clear subject line and three key points reflects HR screening practice. The labor law (Law No. 13/2023) does not prescribe a format for the letter: the recruiting company decides, not the law.

Frequently asked questions
Is a cover letter mandatory for all job applications?
No. It is mandatory when requested in the job ad ("cover letter", "motivation letter", or "application letter"). When the ad only requests a resume, the CV is sufficient — but having a letter ready gives you an edge when it is requested.
Should I send it in Word or PDF?
Work in Word because it is editable; send in PDF format. PDF preserves the layout on mobile devices — which is where most applications are first viewed.
How long should the letter be?
One page, around 150 words — the template provided in the file is designed to this length. If you exceed one page, cut down the descriptive text, never the numbers.
What if I don't have professional experience?
Use what you have: completed internships, school or college projects, volunteering, family business work, even managing a class WhatsApp group. The template format is "skill + verifiable fact" — a small fact works better than a grand adjective. Apply the same logic as the first-job CV template, which offers ready-made points for entry-level candidates.
Can I use the same cover letter for multiple jobs?
You can use the template, but not the finished letter. Each job post asks for different qualifications: update the subject line, the three points, and the company name. Sending an identical letter to five different employers is a screening red flag that is easily detected.
Where do I attach the cover letter when applying through Inademy?
When a job posting requires a letter, it is included directly within the application workflow alongside your CV. The advertisement always specifies what is required. If no letter is requested, your PDF CV is sufficient. If the application is via email, the email body serves as the cover letter — concise, with the subject "Application for [job title]" and three brief lines.
In summary, what to do today
- Download the Word template and open it on your device.
- Replace all sample data with your own: name, contact details, company, job position.
- Rewrite the opening sentence with the specific job position you are applying for, and the three points with your own facts.
- Fit it onto one page and export to PDF.
- Attach your CV, ensuring consistent dates and job titles, so the recruiter can verify each point.
- Submit your application — and if you need an internship version, use the motivation letter from the guide.
