Job Application Request Template in Word (Free)
Download a free job application request template in Word to approach companies with no open vacancy: formal structure, practical example, and errors to avoid.

The vacancy you're looking for doesn't exist, but you want to knock on a company's door anyway? The job application request is the right document: a formal, one-page request in which you introduce yourself and request an opportunity in a specific area.
Here is a free job application request template in Word, ready to edit, with the complete formal structure: recipient, personal details, area of interest, and closing with availability.
In the Inademy Guide, you already have the file Job Application Request Template in Word (.docx) to download now. The paragraph-by-paragraph explanation comes below, so you fill it out correctly the first time.
The short answer
- The template is in Word (.docx) and is free — download it, replace the sample data with yours, and save.
- It's a request, not a response. You use it when there is no open job posting or when the company explicitly asks for a "job application request".
- One page, formal tone. The template uses the formal first person ("I respectfully request"), the right register for requests addressed to institutions, banks, and companies.
- Personal details at the opening. The formal format includes nationality, marital status, ID card number, and residence — which is expected in a request of this type.
- The area of interest is mandatory. A request without a specific area ("I want to work, please") is not taken seriously.
Job application request or cover letter: the key difference
These are two documents that get confused, and the confusion costs applications. The difference lies in what each responds to:
- Cover letter — responds to an advertised vacancy. The subject names the role: "Application for the position of [role]". The template you use here is the cover letter template.
- Job application request — is the document you use when there is no open vacancy. You propose an area to the company where you can work: "in the area of [administration / sales / technical]".
The job application request is more formal by nature: it is requested from a company, often without prior contact, and therefore carries more etiquette weight. It is the classic document for unsolicited applications in Mozambique, delivered by hand at receptions, by mail, or sent to human resources email.
When to use a job application request
- When there is no open ad. You want to work at a specific company and it is not recruiting. The request says "I am available for area X".
- When the ad asks for a "job application request". Some job ads, especially from institutions, state exactly that. In those cases, the right document is the request, not the cover letter.
- For unsolicited applications to public institutions or banks. The formal register ("I respectfully request") fits these contexts well.
- When you want to change sectors without a job in sight. You introduce yourself in a new area; the facts of your previous background serve as the bridge.
In the opposite case — when there is an advertised vacancy with a job title — the document is the cover letter, with the job title in the subject line. Mixing the two up is the most common mistake: a generic request sent for a specific vacancy leaves the company unsure of which job you are applying for.
The template paragraph by paragraph
The Word template has six blocks, in the order a director reads them:
- Place and date. The current sending date. A request saved months ago with an old date shows it is outdated.
- Recipient. The role (managing director, HR director) and company address. If you don't know the person's name, address by their job title.
- Subject. Always: "Job application request". It is the line the recipient sees first.
- Opening with personal details. The formal format introduces the writer: full name, nationality, marital status, ID card number, residence. It is the register the recipient expects from an addressed request.
- Body. The area of interest comes first, then the facts: years of experience, current position, qualities with proof ("responsible" is proven by met deadlines, "punctual" by work history). The template includes a sample profile with 8 years in store management, to show how to complete the format.
- Attachments and closing. You list what is attached (CV, copy of ID card, certificates) and state your availability for an interview or practical test, providing your phone and email, finishing with your signature.
At the bottom of the document is the usual note: the sample data is fictitious and must be replaced. The ID card number in the example is invented — replace it with your real number.
Practical example: the request included in the template
The template includes a complete request written for a sample retail company. It is a practical example with data created for this purpose — read it to see how to fill it out, not to copy it verbatim.
Maputo, September 11, 2026

Comercial Kanimambo, Lda.
Av. de Moçambique, nº 4500 — Maputo
Subject: Job application request
I, Inácio Tomás Manhisse, Mozambican, single, of legal age, holder of Identity Card No. 110100123456F, residing in the Polana Caniço neighborhood, Maputo City, hereby respectfully request to be given the opportunity to work at your company in the area of store administration and operations.
I have 8 years of experience in store management and currently work as Operations Manager at Inademy, EI. I am a responsible, honest, and punctual person, ready to learn and contribute to the company's growth. I attach my resume, copy of my Identity Card, and qualification certificates.
I remain available for any interview or practical test, and I can be contacted by phone at 82 766 8658 or by email at zandameleinacio@gmail.com / info@inademy.com.

Notice what this example does well. The area of interest comes in the first paragraph of the body — the recipient immediately knows where in the company you see yourself. And the qualities come with backing: "8 years in store management" is a fact an interview can confirm; "responsible" alone is not.
How to adapt the template to your profile
The process is the same as for a cover letter, with two extra precautions. If you don't have your CV ready yet, start with the complete 2026 CV guide.
- Replace all sample data. Name, ID card, residence, company, area. Look for the "sample data" note — everything else is fictional.
- Write the correct company and job title. The address comes from the website or company directory. A request with the wrong address fails at the first filter.
- Define the area of interest. One sentence: "in the area of [sales / administration / technical]". Vague is "commercial area"; precise is "over-the-counter product sales".
- Replace the sample facts with yours. Years of experience, current job, education. If you don't have experience, use internships, projects, volunteer work — the format is the same.
- Confirm the list of attachments. What you promise to attach must actually be attached: resume, copy of ID card, certificates.
- Export as PDF and print or send, depending on the submission method.
If the target is an advertised vacancy rather than an unsolicited request, reverse it: use the cover letter, with the job title in the subject line. The CV template accompanying both is in the free Word and PDF templates hub.
Mistakes that cause your request to be rejected
The same mistakes from the cover letter apply here, plus one extra: tone. These are the most common reasons for rejection during screening:
- The wrong company name. The request is addressed — to the right company, with the exact name. Read the recipient line one last time.
- No area of interest. "I am applying for a job opportunity" doesn't say where. The recipient won't know which department to assign you to.
- Losing the formal tone. The request is formal: "I respectfully request", "I remain at your disposal". Do not include emojis, abbreviations, or "I'd love to join the team".
- Missing personal details. The formal format requires ID card number, residence, and nationality at the opening. If missing, the request looks like a draft.
- Two pages or more. The standard is one page; anything beyond that is not read.
- Copying the example and sending it with the fictitious profile name and ID card number. The invented ID number in the template is the costliest mistake on this list — it is discarded at first glance.
Before sending: right company, right area, your details, your facts, one page, attachments listed. If everything is correct, submit it.
Submitting in person, by mail, or by email
The method depends on how the company accepts applications, as stated in the job ad — when there is one. For unsolicited applications, there are three options:
- In person. You go to the reception or human resources office with the request on paper in two copies: one for the company, one for you with a stamp and date of receipt. The stamp is your proof of receipt.
- By mail. To headquarters, via registered post. Keep the receipt.
- By email. To the HR email address, with the subject line "Job Application Request — [area]" and the PDF attached. Use your own email address with a professional handle.
Can't find instructions in the job ad? Check the company's website: most have a contact page. If the company has no digital presence and you don't receive a response within two weeks, following up with a shorter second request featuring a new detail is legitimate.
How Inademy helps you
The job application request is your document; Inademy is the shortest path to a company that is actively hiring. When you respond to a vacancy posted on the platform, your PDF resume and cover letter (if required) are submitted in the same workflow, which is free for you.
With an active profile, new job vacancies in your sector reach you by email and WhatsApp, with application details in the listing. It is more effective than sending unsolicited requests blindly: you respond to an existing need rather than a hope. The currently open vacancies show the details of each listing.
If the company you want isn't recruiting, a printed job application request is the traditional route — and the motivation letter guide for internships and first jobs covers the lighter version for entry-level candidates.
Where these figures come from
- Word template — the file pedido_de_emprego_formal.docx (September 2026 version), with the note "Sample data — replace everything with your real details before sending".
- Figures in the example (8 years, ID Card No. 110100123456F, contacts) — come from the fictitious profile of the template itself; they are invented data to illustrate the format, not market data.
- Formal request format — the structure with personal details at the opening is standard practice for formal requests in Mozambique; labor law (Law No. 13/2023) does not prescribe a legal format for job application requests, so custom and company preference govern it, not the law.
- Inademy Guides — cover letter, motivation letter, CV guides, and templates linked throughout this article.
Frequently asked questions
When do I use a job application request instead of a cover letter?
Use the request when there is no open job posting, when the company explicitly asks for a "job application request", or for unsolicited applications to institutions. When there is an advertised vacancy with a job title, the document to use is the cover letter, with the job title in the subject line.
Does the request need personal details like an ID card number?
In the formal format, yes: the opening introduces the writer — name, nationality, marital status, ID card number, residence. It is the register expected by the recipient for a formal addressed request. Use your real details, never those from the example.
Can I send the same request to multiple companies?
You can reuse the template, but not the completed request. Change the company, the recipient's title, the area of interest, and the facts. An identical request sent to five companies with the first company's name still in the text is a screening mistake that is easy to catch.
How long does it take to get a response to an unsolicited request?
It depends on the company; there is no legal deadline. In practice, two weeks without a response is the point where it's worth following up with a shorter request containing a new detail — or directing that same energy toward an advertised vacancy on Inademy, where you respond to a real need.
What if I don't have experience?
Use what you have: internships, school or college projects, volunteering, family business work. The format requires a "verifiable fact", and a small fact serves better than a big adjective. The template provides the structure; the facts are yours.
Is the request in PDF or paper?
Prepare the request as a PDF — it is what you print for hand delivery with two copies for stamping, and what you attach in an email. A PDF preserves formatting regardless of delivery method.
In summary, what to do today
- Download the Word template and open it.
- Replace all sample data: name, ID card, residence, company, area.
- Rewrite the body with your area of interest and your facts, including metrics where applicable.
- Confirm the list of attachments and adjust to fit one page.
- Export to PDF and choose your submission method: in person with a stamp, registered mail, or email.
- When responding to an advertised job posting, reverse it — use the cover letter, with the job title in the subject line.
