Free Europass CV in Word and PDF — when to use in Mozambique
Free Europass CV template in Word and PDF, plus when to use it in Mozambique: NGOs, EU programs and emigration, with section-by-section instructions.

If you are looking for the Europass CV template in Word or PDF, it is ready to download: two free files, no registration required, with sample Mozambican data to replace with yours. Europass is the European Union curriculum vitae format, and in Mozambique it makes sense to use it when your application target is international: NGOs, European organisations, mobility programs, emigration.
For local vacancies, the classic Mozambican CV remains the norm — 2×3 photo, place of birth, references. In the Inademy Guide, here is the complete roadmap: what the official format is, the sections one by one, step-by-step instructions to fill it out, and when to switch formats.
The short answer
The essentials, in 30 seconds:
- Free download: Europass CV in Word (editable) and in PDF, featuring the official structure and a sample filled out in Mozambican Portuguese. Both links are in the step-by-step section.
- Origin: format maintained by the European Commission; the official page describes it as one of the best-known CV templates in Europe, available in 31 languages (collected 13-09-2026).
- Sections: personal information, work experience, education and training, skills (languages with proficiency level, driving licence), additional information, and annexes.
- When to use: applications for NGOs and international organisations, EU mobility programs, and emigration processes — above all, the corridor to Portugal.
- When not to use: local Mozambican vacancies, where photo, place of birth, and ID card (BI) details remain the norm.

What is the Europass CV
Europass is a set of free European Union tools to manage skills and plan your career. The CV is the centerpiece, and the official PT page states it is 'one of the best-known CV templates in Europe' — easy to use and recognised by employers and educational institutions. The official builder is available in 31 languages and serves applications for jobs, education, training, and volunteering.
You don't need to create an account to use the format. You can work with a document template that maintains the official structure. Inademy provides it in Word and PDF. Only use the online profile when you need the shareable language self-assessment.
The sections, one by one
- Personal information: name, address, telephone (here, in the format +258 8x xxx xxxx, indicating WhatsApp when applicable), email, and nationality. The template does not have a photo field; the official online version allows adding 'a suitable photograph of yourself', but does not require it.
- Employment or work experience: period, job title, employer name and address, company type or sector, main activities. The official rule: most recent experience at the top, and explanations for long gaps.
- Education and qualifications: period, certificate or diploma, main subjects, and institution. For an employer in another country to understand your Mozambican diploma, indicate the EQF level corresponding to the qualification. The EQF — European Qualifications Framework — has eight levels; the exact correspondence can be checked on the official website.
- Personal skills: mother tongue and other languages with level, social, organisational, and technical skills, driving licence.
- Additional information: volunteering, projects, extra training — whatever does not fit into another section.
- Annexes: list of supporting documents (certificates, experience letters) accompanying the application.
The most technical part is the language section. Europass is based on the CEFR — Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, from the Council of Europe — featuring six reference levels, A1 to C2, plus mother tongue.
In the official tool, self-assessment is divided into listening, reading, spoken interaction/production, and writing. In Inademy's template, the sample uses descriptive levels such as 'good' or 'intermediate'. Replace them with yours — and when you know the CEFR code, include it: it is the grid a European recruiter looks for in that section.
When to use in Mozambique
The format does not change just because it is European; it changes depending on the destination. In Mozambique, three scenarios justify using the Europass CV.
- NGOs and international organisations. The NGO and development sector is one of the most active in the local market: about one in five vacancies on Inademy belongs to this sector (platform data, 12-09-2026). International organisations and EU-funded projects usually request the Europass format or a CV structured by official sections. The specific rules for this sector are detailed in the guide on careers in NGOs: how to get in.
- Emigration and applications to Portugal. The MZ–PT corridor is documented: over 1,500 Mozambicans left Mozambique for Portugal in the 1st half of 2026, largely under Portuguese IEFP programs (Lusa, ~15-07-2026, via TV Sucesso Moz). In these processes, the CV follows the European standard — no photo in the template field, languages with proficiency levels, generally 1 to 2 pages.
- EU mobility and training programs. Scholarships, volunteering, and European training programs accept the format; the same skills section serves for applying to education or training in another EU country.
In all other cases — local companies, public institutions, listings published locally — the classic Mozambican CV remains the norm. It is covered in the complete guide to writing a CV in Mozambique. Don't switch formats for the sake of it: switch when the target job market is different.
How to fill out the template: step by step
Start with the files. One to edit, another to read and print:
- Europass Template in Word — editable; all sample data is highlighted for replacement.
- Europass Template in PDF — reading and printing.
- Read the sample from start to finish. The template opens with the note 'Sample data — replace everything with your real details before sending'.
- Fill in personal information: name, address, phone in +258 format, and a professional email.
- Write your experience: period, job title, employer, sector, and activities with metrics when available. The sample does this — 'reduction of stockouts from 9% to 3%'. Use your numbers, not the sample's.
- Education: diploma, main subjects, and institution, with periods completing the dates.
- Skills: languages with proficiency levels, technical and social skills; driving licence, if you have one.
- Review dates in bulk: no unexplained gaps, no overlapping that doesn't make sense.
- Look for sample remnants — sample name, number, and address often get caught at the last minute — and save the file with a name describing the job position.
Keep a single column, simple typography — Arial or Calibri, 10 to 12 pt — and no graphics. This keeps the file readable for any automated screening system (ATS).

Differences compared to the Mozambican CV
- Photo. In Mozambique, it's standard: 2×3 in the upper corner. In the Europass CV, it is not a default field; the official online version allows adding a suitable photo, but European standard practice rarely includes it.
- Language levels. The local CV says 'English — good'. Europass uses the CEFR grid (A1 to C2) with self-assessment across comprehension and expression — European recruiters understand this standard.
- Length. European practice is 1 to 2 pages; the Mozambican CV, with photos and details, often runs longer.
- Personal data. Place of birth is a local field; the Europass model includes nationality and date of birth, without place of birth or marital status.
- Annexes. Europass lists supporting documents; Mozambican standard practice uses 'available upon request'.
None of these differences are prohibitions — they are contrasts. For local vacancies, local standards win; for European destinations, the European format removes noise that European recruiters aren't looking for.
Errors that ruin a Europass CV
- Unreplaced sample data. Leaving sample name, phone number, or address in the file. Always double-check before sending.
- Languages without proficiency level. The section loses its purpose: it's the part of Europass a European recruiter checks first.
- Experience without metrics. The sample sets the standard — concrete activities with measured results.
- Unexplained gaps. Official advice: explain long interruptions in study or career.
- Partially translated. Applications in English require a CV entirely in English — the structure remains the same and writing guidelines are in the English CV with examples guide.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Europass CV mandatory for working in the EU?
No. It is a recognized format, not a strict requirement: the official site describes it as one of the best-known templates in Europe, but actual requirements depend on the job posting. If the job asks for Europass, use Europass; if it asks for a standard CV, the same content applies.
Can I use the Inademy template or do I have to create a profile on the EU website?
You can use the offline Word or PDF template — it maintains the official structure. The online profile (free, 31 languages) adds a shareable language self-assessment grid for employers and a supporting documents library.
Does a photo go in the Europass CV?
It is not a default template field. The official online version allows adding 'a suitable photograph of yourself', but European standard practice rarely includes one. If applying to a European position, check the job posting — photo requirements vary by country; verify at the time of application.
Which language level should I indicate?
The Europass standard is CEFR self-assessment, from A1 to C2, across listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Indicate the level corresponding to your actual ability — an inflated level will become apparent during the interview when the recruiter tests your language skills.
How many pages should it have?
European practice is 1 to 2 pages; the official website does not set a strict length limit. Follow the job posting: if it requests more, provide more.
