Who we are looking for

Sasol is looking for a civil engineer with at least 3 years of experience in the energy sector or heavy industry, who is not afraid of field work: inspections of metal structures, pipe racks, foundations, roads, and buildings in facilities that cannot stop. You will work with integrity records, technical reports, and contractors — and your signature will be on those documents.

We are not looking for someone who is only comfortable in the boardroom: the role requires rigor in asset logging, reading construction drawings, contractor management, and teamwork with logistics, operations, and maintenance areas. If you can maintain a safe and documented structure under deadline pressure, this is where you fit in.

Day-to-day responsibilities

• Build and run the operation's civil and structural integrity programs, with an updated asset register linked to the integrity database;
• Conduct inspections and condition assessments of metal structures, pipe racks, equipment supports, buildings, workshops, warehouses, compression stations, elevated platforms, and concrete foundations;
• Identify corrosion damage, concrete deterioration, cracks, settlements, and deformations, and deliver inspection reports with a remediation plan for each case;
• Maintain buildings within applicable construction standards and legal requirements, and lead structural rehabilitation and renovation projects;
• Define inspection and maintenance strategies for access roads, internal and dirt roads, drainage systems, culverts, bridges, and crossings to keep the operation accessible year-round;
• Provide civil engineering input to brownfield and greenfield projects: review drawings and support planning, cost estimates, execution, and commissioning within Sasol standards and engineering specifications;
• Supervise contractors for structural inspections, non-destructive testing, concrete repairs, and road rehabilitation, ensuring quality requirements and technical acceptance of each intervention.
