The essentials: Peace Parks Foundation is opening 1 permanent position for Community Development Manager in the Massingir region, in the Great Limpopo transfrontier area. The contract is permanent, the official position reference is RR_2026_MOZ_036, applications close on October 7, 2026, and the entire process is online on the foundation's official recruitment channel. Salary and other remuneration conditions are not disclosed in the job posting.
You will lead the park's community program portfolio — from strategic planning and budgeting to field execution — with direct management of field teams and buffer zone community organizations.
Peace Parks Foundation (PPF) is a non-profit organization founded in 1997 by Nelson Mandela, Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, and Dr. Anton Rupert. It works on conservation at scale in Southern Africa through Transfrontier Conservation Areas — corridors connecting protected areas across national borders to strengthen biodiversity, ecological resilience, and local economies.
To date, the foundation has supported governments in establishing 780,000 km² of transfrontier conservation areas in Southern Africa. It co-manages 8 parks where wildlife populations have recovered five times more than in the past, and annually supports over 280,000 people through its programs.
Action is based on three pillars — conservation at scale, community development, and conservation finance — and Vision 2050 is to have 17 functional transfrontier landscapes totaling 980,000 km², one of the largest terrestrial conservation initiatives in the world.
The role has three fronts. The first is the strategic and operational management of the department: you will design and execute the work plan and annual budget of the community development program, in alignment with the global strategy and the buffer zone management plan.
You will supervise and evaluate department staff, with regular mentoring; manage assets and resources; and report to the Park Warden and the Operations and Development lead. You will also execute donor programs linked to community development and ensure the logging and closure of grievances, according to park procedure.
The second front is community governance and capacity building: you will establish and strengthen inclusive community governance structures — specifically Natural Resource Management Committees — and facilitate participatory planning and baseline assessments with local governments, community leaders, and residents.
You will conduct capacity building and leadership trainings, focusing on strengthening women's participation and inclusion in decision-making; support communities to assume sustainable natural resource management; and implement environmental education and awareness programs.
The third front is resilience and socio-economic development: you will establish climate-smart primary production initiatives (conservation and irrigated agriculture, improved livestock management, responsible artisanal fishing) and support "Herding for Health" programs.
You will drive income generation and rural entrepreneurship, including the development of small and medium community enterprises and direct access to markets.
You will expand local employment and social safety nets through park projects, including cash-for-work (eco-jobs) opportunities. You will also identify and apply accessible technologies for field productivity, soil conservation, and carbon credit programs such as REDD+.
On technical quality, you will implement the MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning) framework in coordination with the MEL team to measure long-term project impact.
You will conduct socio-economic baseline assessments prior to each field implementation, and maintain the park's centralized community database updated, verifying field data accuracy on crop yields and marketing indicators.
You will need to balance two speeds: that of a department manager (budget, performance, document and financial control) and that of someone working at the community doorstep (consensus, listening, participatory planning). The work blends office and field. The posting is for a single position and the context is remote — the ad requires the ability to work and live in an isolated area.
The process is 100% online, on Peace Parks Foundation's official recruitment channel (Job Central), where the post is open under reference RR_2026_MOZ_036.
Applications are submitted on this official job page. A curriculum vitae (CV) with full address, phone number, and email address is required by October 7, 2026.
