Currently, Maktubia is providing direct support in setting up a bank in the Mozambican financial sector. The new financial institution has international parentage, and its commercial name is not disclosed at this stage of the process.

There is one position available for the role of Compliance Assistant on a full-time basis. As the banking institution is in its establishment phase, the selected person will set up the compliance area from day one, operating in a lean startup environment.

This position falls within the institution's second line of defense. Duties focus on continuous monitoring and ongoing advice on regulatory compliance matters, ensuring alignment with Banco de Moçambique requirements and institutional governance best practices.

What you will do

Daily duties for this position are divided into the following actions:

• Monitor compliance with banking regulations and internal policies across all operational areas of the bank, preventing regulatory breaches.
• Conduct regular and ad-hoc compliance reviews with each department to identify compliance failures early and submit assessment reports in a timely manner.
• Assist in preparing compliance reports directed to the banking regulator and other relevant public entities, ensuring the accuracy of information provided and strict adherence to set deadlines.
• Provide practical guidance and technical advice to internal teams on meeting regulatory requirements, fostering increased regulatory knowledge across the organization.
• Participate in the implementation, review, and regular updating of compliance procedures and policies, contributing to strengthening a compliance culture throughout the institution.
• Track monitoring of AML/CFT obligations (anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism), including the analysis of suspicious transaction reports (STRs) and assigning risk ratings to clients.
• Follow up on the implementation of corrective actions arising from audits, regulator inspections, and internal compliance reviews.
• Support the organization of mandatory training sessions on ethics and AML/CFT matters, ensuring the training target of 100% of employees annually is met.
• Collaborate with various company departments in collecting compliance data and maintaining all regulatory documentation organized.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a rigorous professional with strong attention to detail who possesses consolidated knowledge of banking compliance principles and applicable financial regulations in Mozambique.

Demonstrating familiarity with AML/CFT procedures, preparing and submitting regulatory reports, and providing direct support to business units is important, while always maintaining the independence necessary for the compliance role.

The role is full-time, forming part of the workgroup responsible for establishing the bank's operations in Mozambique.
