The essentials: FNB Mozambique, part of the FirstRand Group, is looking for a Compliance Monitoring Officer for Maputo, under reference R54504. The role monitors compliance with the bank's internal rules and controls and reduces the risk of non-compliance. Applications are processed through FirstRand's official Workday portal until October 29, 2026.
This is a back-office position, working on-site at the Maputo headquarters. It is neither a commercial nor a front-office role. It involves monitoring, reporting, and risk tracking to ensure the bank operates within laws and regulations.
You will execute the annual Compliance plan approved by the department. You will put compliance tests and periodic reviews of the bank's processes, products, systems, and activities into practice. The goal is to evaluate whether controls effectively ensure compliance with internal rules and policies.
When you find non-compliance, a control weakness, or a risk, you identify, document, and communicate it. You then compile the report with findings, risks, and recommendations for improvement. You also monitor corrective measures undertaken by audited areas until their closure within the deadline.
In a bank, compliance is what keeps the business within the law and regulations. Your work protects FNB and its clients from non-compliance risks and helps consolidate a culture of ethics. Therefore, the position requires rigor, method, and the ability to communicate difficult findings clearly.
FNB is the retail and commercial bank of the FirstRand Group, one of the largest financial groups in the region. The role is rooted in Compliance and internal monitoring. You will prepare information for internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, and independent reviews, and track legal and regulatory changes to support business areas in their interpretation and application.
You will also support risk assessments, help identify areas of highest exposure, and promote awareness of compliance, ethics, and good conduct. The group relies on an equal opportunity plan and supports the recruitment and career progression of people with disabilities, whose information can be provided voluntarily and is treated with confidentiality.
Evaluation is based on the execution of the annual plan, the quality and timeliness of reports, completed corrective measures, the relevance of identified non-compliances, and the effectiveness of recommendations. These criteria guide performance appraisal in the role.
We are looking for someone with a degree in Law, Management, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or Auditing, and two to four years of experience in the field. Ideal experience is in Compliance, Auditing, Risk Management, or Internal Control within the financial sector.
Having international certifications such as CCEP or ICA is an advantage. Knowledge of banking regulation, anti-money laundering, and counter-terrorist financing is also important. Technically, Microsoft Office proficiency, with a focus on Excel and PowerPoint, is a prerequisite.
Applications must be submitted exclusively via FirstRand's official Workday portal under reference R54504: firstrand.wd3.myworkdayjobs.com/FRB. The deadline ends on October 29, 2026; from October 30 onwards, the bank will no longer accept applications.
