Johanniter International Assistance (JIA) is strengthening its team: it is looking for a Construction Engineer for its programmes in Cabo Delgado Province. JIA is the humanitarian aid unit of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe, a German organisation dedicated to first aid, ambulance services and medical and social programmes, headquartered in Berlin. The global strategy focuses on two major areas of work — responding to and preparing for disasters, and health and livelihoods —
and it always looks at two things at the same equipa: the changing climate, and equality between women and men. What this means in the field: works that are born from a real need, built with local partners and public authorities, and that have to withstand cyclones, floods and the hazards Cabo Delgado knows well.
Reporting to the Senior Programme Coordinator, you are the technical reference for all construction and rehabilitation works of JIA programmes in Cabo Delgado — health facilities, WASH infrastructure (boreholes, water supply systems, latrines, hand-washing stations), community buildings and emergency infrastructure. Day to day, this involves:
Someone who enjoys seeing a work leave the drawing board and stand on its own feet — and who does not lower the standard when the terrain is difficult. Someone who can explain the same technical detail to the contractor, the community and the donor, each in their own way, without losing rigour. Someone who likes training people and leaving capacity behind wherever they go.
And someone who understands that, in a humanitarian operation, the work serves people: a health centre that opens its doors, a school that withstands the next cyclone, water reaching those who need it.
Honesty first. The announcement details the responsibilities, lists the technical requirements, states the benefits in general terms, the application channel, the email subject and the deadline — and it is exactly that which this page contains. It does not publish a salary in figures, does not fix the base town within the province, and does not state the contract duration or the language in which you should write your application.
It also says, word for word, that only shortlisted candidates will be notified and that shortlisting may begin before the deadline — so it pays to apply early; the decision on who moves forward is entirely Johanniter's.
Prepare the complete application — a cover letter, your CV, references from those who have supervised you (3 people), job certificates if you have them — and state right away when you can start. Send it by email to recruitment.moz@thejohanniter.org with the exact subject "JUH-MOZ-CON-ENGINEER 09/2026" —
the announcement asks for these words literally, and that way your letter is easy to locate for whoever receives hundreds of emails. Deadline: 19 September 2026 — send it early; deadlines wait for no one.
The announcement also states that Johanniter requires background checks — including a criminal record and reference checks — to protect vulnerable people and prevent abuse, and that it is an equal opportunity employer: it values diversity regardless of cultural, religious or social background, gender, age, disability or sexual orientation, and invites women and people with disabilities to apply.
Those who join are also expected to act in line with the organisation's Code of Conduct and the way of leading it practises.
