CHAI (Clinton Health Access Initiative) is recruiting a Country Director for Mozambique, based in Maputo. CHAI is a global health organization founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, with the mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low- and middle-income countries.
It operates in over 40 countries, at the invitation of governments, in partnership with the private sector, to build and sustain quality health systems.
In Mozambique, CHAI has been working with the government since 2002, starting with the diagnosis and treatment of children living with HIV. Through programs and public-private partnerships, the organization helped transform health service delivery through mobile technology, improved supply chains, and cost efficiencies identified in the national health system.
Program results in Mozambique include over 90% of eligible children tested with point-of-care rapid diagnostic devices initiating same-day treatment, a 60% cure rate in children under five with leukemia, and 44 health facilities equipped with rapid testing to diagnose pre-eclampsia.
CHAI works with the Ministry of Health towards the target of malaria pre-elimination, medical oxygen systems, prevention of child malnutrition, assistive technology, and corrective cleft lip and palate surgeries, reinforcing digital disease surveillance and response systems and vaccine cold chains.
The role consists of leading CHAI's global health program in Mozambique, designing and executing programs, setting the long-term vision for the organization's growth in the country, and managing a project portfolio aligned with CHAI Global strategy. The position reports to the Regional Director for Southern Africa and is open to national and international candidates.
CHAI is looking for an entrepreneurial and highly motivated individual who shares the organization's mission and values, with a solution-oriented mindset and strong communication skills. Humility, resourcefulness, and persistence matter to the organization. You make decisions and answer to regional and global leadership, building trust with the Mozambican government, donors, and the health community.
Salary: undisclosed. CHAI defines compensation internally during the selection process. The position is part of a global health organization with programs in over 40 countries and a presence in Mozambique since 2002.
