The Community Alliance for Resilience and Natural Resource Management (ACRE) is recruiting a Field Assistant for the project "Enhancing Resilient Marine and Coastal Ecosystems through Community-Led Restoration", under the UNEP / Nairobi Convention framework. The position is based in Machanga District, Sofala Province, Mozambique — a single vacancy, based in the district itself.
This is field-based work directly with communities: preparing, promoting and delivering the project's field activities in partnership with local stakeholders — from the District Government to partners active in the area of intervention.
The project focuses on community-led marine and coastal ecosystem restoration. The Field Assistant acts as the link between the project and the community: explaining, mobilising, listening and reporting. This role suits someone who thrives in the field, enjoys working outside an office, and works well with people from diverse backgrounds.
We are looking for someone who loves field work and people: someone who explains patiently, mobilises without promising what cannot be delivered, listens attentively, and reports accurately, even when the news is not good. Specific experience and education requirements are detailed in the application guidelines — here we value the right fit: someone comfortable working directly with communities, away from an office.
Fluency in the local language is a strong asset, as the day-to-day role involves engaging directly with local communities.
A role at ACRE offers a crash course in field reality: community organisation, natural resource management and ecosystem restoration, all in a real coastal context. The community engagement experience gained here is valuable for any career in rural and coastal development — and exposure to UNEP and Nairobi Convention partners builds a portfolio few projects can offer.
Field job applications can be difficult to track: you send your CV and certificates to a project inbox and wait weeks without knowing if your application was received. For those working or seeking to work in the field, this uncertainty takes a toll — every day counts.
