In this role, your work connects two ends: documenting the real stories of beneficiaries and maintaining relationships with donors. You will create content that demonstrates the impact of cash transfers — in text, photography, and video — and accompany the team when decisions happen in the field.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with a creative mindset and a keen eye for visual storytelling: photography, short-form video, reels. The person will work in the field, in direct contact with beneficiaries and donors, so interpersonal communication and the ability to manage frequently changing priorities are part of the daily routine.

The work is based in Malema: field content collection and filming with the team and contracted videographers.

Day-to-day responsibilities

• Engage beneficiaries to collect, document, and share their stories; write, edit, and publish these stories across GiveDirectly platforms, ensuring accuracy and narrative consistency.
• Document creative success stories in text, photography, and short-form videos (reels), adhering to GiveDirectly's safeguarding, consent, and data protection guidelines.
• Regularly update and organize the content plan and content database for internal and external use.
• Lead filming and editing of short-form video content — reels, beneficiary stories, campaign clips — coordinating delivery timelines and quality standards with the Content Coordinator.
• Identify beneficiaries with stories suitable for filming and support contracted videographers during the process, ensuring captured narratives are authentic.
• Participate in donor field visits: accompany the team, facilitate interactions, and provide field insights. Identify beneficiaries and test networks within communities for live calls with donors.
• Participate in project paydays to get real-time updates on transfer delivery and its impact.
• Conduct follow-up surveys with beneficiaries after transfer distribution, remotely or on-site.
• Identify and report safeguarding incidents — extortion, theft, or fraud — to the Associate Field Manager, Field Manager, Case Management, Safeguarding team, and Internal Audit.
• Monitor beneficiary compliance with project guidelines — eligibility checks, beneficiary replacements, and identity validation; collect data, present findings to supervisors, and propose solutions for operational challenges in the field.

GiveDirectly has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (SEAH). In this role, your priority is beneficiary consent and safeguarding protocols whenever collecting stories, photos, or videos. The same applies to relationships with colleagues and partners.
