CESAL has opened a selection process for a Forestry Project Technician, based in the town of Montepuez, under the project "Sementes da resiliência" (Seeds of Resilience) — agroecological production and climate resilience with women in Mozambique. The initial contract runs for 12 months (renewable), includes a three-month probation period, and the start is immediate. The application deadline is 14 September 2026 — send your dossier with time to spare, avoid the last-minute rush.
According to the Terms of Reference, the role covers the districts of Montepuez and Balama, in Cabo Delgado, and Marrupa, in Niassa, based in the town of Montepuez with daily field presence. The announcement mentions daily travel "to the two districts" while listing three districts — it does not explain the difference; in practice, expect a very field-heavy day-to-day. You work under the guidance of the Forestry Specialist and the Project Coordinator, in coordination with the rural extension agents of the SDAE and the SDPI.
Look at the list and notice: almost nothing here happens behind a desk. This is a role for someone who likes being with communities — explaining, listening and organising — with the forestry technical component providing the framework.
Someone who knows forestry and forest management in the context of northern Mozambique, who has put the country's REDD+ strategy into practice, and who has already worked with rural associations in the north. It counts a lot if you have implemented income-generating activities — beekeeping and small livestock — with farmers' associations. The profile is that of a community facilitator: leading hands-on training in the field, creating group dynamics, engaging the different parties and talking with equal ease to technicians, partners, farmers and local leaders. A background in environmental management, agricultural hydraulics, cooperation and development, conservation agriculture, agroforestry systems or organic farming is presented in the announcement as an advantage.
Honest note on pay: the announcement does not publish a salary. If you are called for an interview, that is the right moment to clarify this point — asking is legitimate and expected.
The dossier is sent by e-mail to cvmozambique@cesal.org by 14/09/2026 — and the reference goes in the subject line:
Tecnico Florestal_Montepuez
Keep the subject line exactly as written above (it is in Portuguese on purpose — it must match the official call).
The dossier has three pieces: the cover letter, answering two questions — first, what makes your profile a fit for this vacancy; then, the experience you bring to the role; next comes the curriculum vitae with at least two references; and the package closes with the updated criminal record certificate, required by CESAL's protection (PSEA) protocols. Exclusion rules from the announcement: no applications on paper or delivered in person; those that arrive incomplete — or with a letter that does not say what was asked — are left out immediately; and there is only contact for those who make the shortlist for interview.
Before sending, a useful aside: our Career Guide has material on cover letters and CVs that survive demanding screening — worth a read.
