Behind this vacancy stands Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V., a German Christian NGO whose reputation was built on first aid, emergency transport, social programmes and medical projects. Its humanitarian arm operating in the field is called Johanniter International Assistance (JIA) and is headquartered at the federal office in Berlin. The global strategy through 2027 organises the work around three pillars — disaster response and preparedness, health, and livelihoods —
with climate and gender equality cutting across all of them. The declared way of working rests on partnership and localisation, grounded in mutual learning, respect and trust, with accountability, inclusion and safeguarding steering everyday action.
JIA is opening 1 (one) position for a Health and Nutrition Manager in Cabo Delgado. Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Manager, whoever takes the post runs the Primary Health Care and IMAM (Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition) projects side by side with partners.
The role supervises health and nutrition work in the field, brings technical input into planning, implementation and reporting, equips the team to deliver quality activities and watches over compliance with the applicable national and international standards. It also drives the multi-sectoral integration of activities, coordination with other sectors and the management of the technical team — from people management to budget oversight, logistics, performance indicators and beneficiary feedback —
always aimed at reinforcing the Ministry of Health's effort to reduce disease and mortality, with special attention to children and women.
The notice organises the job into nine areas. In short, the manager is expected to:
The required base education is a university degree in one of the health areas detailed in the requirements, with a Master of Public Health weighing in your favour. The source bundles into the mandatory package: at least three years in these functions — management, coordination and execution —
applied to health and nutrition in crisis or development cooperation settings, with baseline assessments and rapid diagnoses on your record; having already commanded teams running projects in demanding international operations or conflict zones; knowing closely the international humanitarian donors named in the requirements and each one's rules; mastering the technical standards of the speciality; and knowing how to negotiate and engage with governments and partners.
The rest counts as an asset: WASH, protection or GBV backgrounds, mental health support and previous experience in Cabo Delgado. Portuguese and English, written and spoken, are essential, and the notice stresses the importance of being able to work with teams of diverse origins and contexts.
The announcement promises a competitive, attractive salary, calibrated by the internal salary scale and each candidate's previous experience, plus a benefits package that includes a 13th month, social security and an insurance set — all in a work environment painted as healthy and mutually appreciative.
Pay attention to the channel: applications go to recruitment.moz@thejohanniter.org and the window closes on 19 September 2026. The digital envelope must carry four pieces: a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, the contact details of three people who have supervised you and any work certificates you hold. Add the earliest date you can start. Golden rule: the email subject must be, verbatim, "JUH-MOZ-H&N Manager 11/2025" — unchanged.
Two notes from the notice itself: only candidates who pass the initial screening will hear back, and that screening may start before the deadline closes — one more reason not to send everything on the last day.
The organisation positions itself as an employer that treats all applications on an equal footing, regardless of cultural, religious or social background, gender, age, disability or sexual orientation, with an open invitation to women and people with disabilities; and it warns that background checks — a criminal record and references enter the process — are required, precisely to protect those in vulnerable situations.
About salary: the source frames it as "competitive" without giving figures — the salary field therefore reads "negotiable", with no invented numbers. How long the contract lasts and the exact location within Cabo Delgado are left open by the notice itself. The text above condenses an announcement written in English; the original stays with the source.
