About the company and context

Maktubia Consultoria, Lda., a Mozambican company based in Maputo and registered under NUEL, is supporting the establishment of a new banking institution in the Mozambican financial sector. This institution has an international parent company and is currently being established in the country.

You will join the new internal audit team to support the creation of the department from day one. The specific name of the bank involved is not disclosed.

What you will do

Your role exists to ensure that internal audits test the effectiveness of controls, risk mechanisms, and governance within the bank. You will report directly to the internal audit manager and indirectly to the sector director.

Your responsibilities include the following tasks:

• Plan and execute, autonomously, the complete cycle of operational and financial audits, from the initial scoping and goal design to wrap-up with the final report.
• Conduct fieldwork directly across the institution's different departments and branches, gathering reliable evidence and performing tests on existing internal controls.
• Assess the governance framework, risk management, and internal controls, issuing well-founded conclusions on identified operational weaknesses.
• Verify operational compliance with internal institutional policies and regulatory requirements set by Banco de Moçambique.
• Align and organize work papers and supporting documentation for each engagement in a complete, clear, and traceable manner, maintaining consistency with the adopted methodology.
• Draft detailed reports and proposed recommendations, presenting conclusions clearly to senior management and, where applicable, to the Audit Committee.
• Ensure that business units implement the corrective actions specified in recommendations, securing closure within established deadlines.
• Contribute to designing and prioritizing the Annual Audit Plan based on continuous risk assessment.
• Use professional judgment to detect emerging operational risks and calibrate the depth and scope of audit testing.
• Provide technical support and guide more junior auditors during fieldwork execution.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external auditors, facilitating access to documentation, operational clarifications, and shared information.
• Promptly report matters of significant importance to the audit manager, ensuring regulatory alignment and departmental independence.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a professional with proven experience, the ability to conduct audit engagements autonomously, and mature professional judgment in a banking environment under setup.

Experience in drafting reports for top management, aptitude for guiding junior colleagues in the field, and the ability to remain firm and independent during difficult conversations in audited areas are highly valued.
