The essentials: Bodyguard at the US Embassy in Maputo — permanent local position, 40 hrs/week, published salary of 18,655 USD/year. Applications at the erajobs.state.gov portal; deadline October 20, 2026.
The US Embassy in Maputo is looking for a Bodyguard for its Regional Security Office (RSO) — the unit that manages the safety of diplomats and visitors to the country.
Whoever fills this role executes protection operations for the Ambassador, the Chief of Mission (COM), and other visiting officials, in a program with three priority tiers: close protection of the protectee, facility visits, and ties with Mozambican security forces.
The job is not a simple desk role: it requires a physical evaluation and a defensive driving test before starting, and driving protectee vehicles is part of the position when required by operations.
Someone with at least three years of experience in personal security, armed escort, police, infantry, or combat arms — in a military, police, or private sector context. The person must work in sometimes hazardous environments without losing composure, and accept variable schedules, 24-hour on-call shifts, and travel outside Maputo when required by operations.
Experience driving armored vehicles and training in defensive driving are a plus, when available.
