Day-to-day responsibilities

• Administering and maintaining the LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, internet, VPN, and network security infrastructure to ensure network services remain within agreed service levels.
• Monitoring network availability, performance, and capacity, identifying and resolving issues before they impact user experience.
• Implementing and maintaining network security controls, updates, and infrastructure configuration standards.
• Supporting network projects, upgrades, new deployments, and technology refresh initiatives in coordination with systems teams.
• Troubleshooting and resolving network incidents within agreed service levels, documenting actions taken and lessons learned.
• Keeping network documentation up to date: diagrams, configurations, and operational procedures.
• Managing relationships with network service providers and external support vendors.
• Ensuring compliance with security, governance, and change management requirements.

Day-to-day in practice

The work combines continuous monitoring, ticket and incident handling, and preventive maintenance. It involves monitoring network status — performance, capacity, and availability —, taking action when degradation occurs, documenting changes, and coordinating with systems teams and vendors.

It is continuous work: the network never stops, and service stability depends on doing this routine well. It also includes ongoing collaboration with systems and security teams, in coordination with vendors, to ensure the network is prepared for growth and the demands of banking services.
