Operations Manager — Fondation François Sommer (Musseia)

About Fondation François Sommer

Fondation François Sommer supports the management, conservation and development of protected areas in Mozambique. In this project, the foundation works closely with the Gilé National Park, coordinating with the park administration, internal departments and the partners that fund its activities.

The park is being strengthened in infrastructure, law enforcement and support to nearby communities, and the Operations Manager role has a central part in this phase.

It is the person who connects field operations with project coordination: linking the Musseia team to the Project Coordinator in Maputo and the Director of the Wildlife Institute in Paris, and ensuring that activities run with rigour and on schedule.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with real field experience in managing programmes, at ease working in a conservation setting and coordinating teams from different specialties.

The role requires regular presence in the park, close contact with communities and local managers, and the ability to coordinate the Musseia operations with the coordination in Maputo and the direction in Paris.

You will report to the Project Coordinator in Maputo and to the Director of the Wildlife Institute in Paris, and coordinate the work with the park's department heads and with supporting partners.

The ideal candidate is organised, communicates well and knows how to lead a team fairly and transparently.

Day-to-day responsibilities

In your day to day, you will:

• Support the field implementation of projects funded by the foundation and by national and international donors.
• Maintain communication with the Project Coordinator in Maputo and the direction in Paris, following up on needs and the progress of activities.
• Support department heads with planning, budgeting, execution, monitoring and reporting.
• Coordinate the technical, financial and administrative support given to the infrastructure, logistics, law-enforcement, community and conservation teams.
• Support recruitment, capacity-building and the management of the team, which counts around 120 staff, ensuring fair practices.
• Follow the correct application of the organisation's financial and administrative procedures.
• Work in articulation with other organisations, coordinating conservation actions in the field.
• Support the Project Management Unit, including the supervision meetings and the preparation of the monthly, semi-annual and annual reports submitted to ANAC and to the donors.
