Mota-Engil is an international group in construction, engineering and services, headquartered in Portugal. The Cost Controller is responsible for implementing and maintaining effective project cost control systems. In practice, that means ensuring the accuracy, the completeness and the timely reporting of all project costs throughout the entire project lifecycle.
The position plays a key role in supporting project management's decision-making: cost analysis, forecasting, trend monitoring and the production of financial performance reports are the tools with which the role grounds the direction's choices. The responsibilities are aligned with the project control practices already defined in the control documentation of the project in question.
The profile combines skills in planning tools — Primavera P6, including resource and cost loading — with the reading of financial management systems, in particular SAP or an equivalent ERP.
Earned value management and forecasting techniques are the core of the function: it is with them that the technician tracks the evolution of costs against the plan, anticipates deviations and produces the information that supports project management's decisions.
At the end of each period, the technician applies accrual accounting principles and follows the period-end closing processes, using advanced Excel to consolidate and present the reports. The work directly serves the project management team, which receives the financial information regularly throughout the entire lifecycle of the works.
In the official portal, the position is listed in the ERP, SAP, Project Manager, Technician and Technology segments — the cross-discipline of skills between management systems, planning and technology that the role demands.
Advanced knowledge of Primavera P6, including resource and cost loading; in-depth understanding of project cost control methodologies, forecasting techniques and earned value management; and experience with SAP or ERP financial systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; advanced Excel and reporting capabilities; knowledge of accrual accounting principles and period-end closing processes; and excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Experience in EPC and construction is preferred.
