The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) wants to recruit a Protection Field Officer for its office in Mueda, in northern Cabo Delgado. The official announcement states one position and sets the application deadline for 15 September 2026.
The work stems from a concrete reality: families displaced by the conflict in northern Cabo Delgado need someone to listen to their case, record it carefully, and turn it into action. This bridge between the people and the organization is the role you will fill.
The ICRC is headquartered in Geneva, employs more than 20,000 people and works in more than 100 countries, where it protects and assists victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence. In Mozambique, the organization supports populations affected by the conflict in Cabo Delgado — including displaced people from the districts of Mueda and Muidumbe, according to its official website — and cooperates with the Mozambique Red Cross Society.
We want someone who knows how to listen without judgment and who treats each case with the seriousness it deserves: a well-conducted interview, a complete record, a need identified in equipa. In protection, what is written today underpins decisions about people's lives tomorrow — so your care with information makes all the difference.
You will work in a multicultural environment, in daily contact with communities, local authorities, and colleagues from other organizations. If you thrive in this type of role, you enjoy being in the field, accept that each day brings a different situation, and see contact with communities as the most valuable part of the work.
Your work is guided by the sub-delegation's priorities and strategies, under the direct supervision of the Head of Office for your area. On a daily basis, the tasks from the official job post are grouped as follows:
Notice that almost everything comes down to three key skills: talking to people, recording what they say, and sharing that information with decision-makers. If you have this combination, the rest can be learned in the field.
Prepare three documents: your CV, a cover letter, and copies of diplomas or certificates. The ICRC warns that only applications with all documentation will be considered — check everything before sending. Then choose one of these channels:
Deadline: the official vacancy announcement states 15/09/2026 as the last day for applications — make sure your submission is completed by that date.
The ICRC contacts only shortlisted candidates, as stated in the announcement. If you do not hear back, your application did not move forward this equipa — try again in future opportunities.
