The short answer
- Free Word template — download it, fill it out, send it off.
- HSE comes first — certifications or site experience carry more weight than adjectives.
- Concrete field experience — construction, industrial, aviation, or agricultural, quantified.
- Availability for remote work — camp accommodation, shift work, and travel, stated clearly in black and white.
- Technical skills — electrical, mechanical, blueprint reading, equipment operation.
What recruiters value in mining and energy
Outside Maputo, the highest-paying sector in Mozambique is mining and energy. Moatize coal, northern gas and LNG, and the electrical grid draw people to projects in Tete, Caia, and Manhiça. Hiring is tough: they need people willing to live on site.
A generic "urban" CV won't open these doors. Before reading your profile, the recruiter looks for four things: safety, field experience, technical competence, and willingness to work remotely. When these four appear right at the top, they keep reading.
Pay on these projects is usually well above the national average, as living in site accommodation away from family is compensated with a hardship allowance. Candidates don't write their salary expectations on their CV — that is discussed during the interview — but you enter the process knowing the sector pays well.
People who understand this present themselves with confidence and let numbers prove their competence, rather than just claiming it. That is the difference between a CV that gets you an interview and one left forgotten in a pile.
That is why this template structures the CV in reverse order: it starts with what matters on site and leaves education and personal details for the end.

The template, section by section
Order matters. A field CV is read from top to bottom, and what you see first carries the most weight. You will fill in this mining and energy CV template in Word without any hidden rules: follow the order below and your file will be ready in minutes.
Header and objective
Name, phone number, city, and on the same line, your availability: "available for remote work, site accommodation, and shift work". That line already sets you apart from half of the applicants. Next comes the objective in one sentence: "Helper, operator, or technician in the mining and energy sector, with training in electrical work and availability for Tete".
Experience, skills, and training
Experience in chronological order, using action verbs and numbers: "installed 2 km of low-voltage network", "operated an excavator for 6 months". Technical skills come in a short list. Technical training — UVITC, CENFO, electrical, mechanical, or safety courses — goes in its own section. HSE certifications follow right after.
HSE: The criterion that carries the most weight
In mining and energy, safety is not a bonus. It is the filter. A technician without HSE loses the role to someone with HSE, even if that person has less experience. The worksite chooses people who know how to work safely first.
Certifications the sector recognises
- ISO 45001 (formerly OHSAS 18001) — occupational health and safety management.
- First aid and industrial firefighting.
- Heavy machinery operator certification — excavators, forklifts, cranes.
Do you have HSE? Place the certification near your name in the top half of the page. Don't have it? A basic course taken before applying is worth more than ten adjectives.
In practice, HSE takes up two or three lines on your CV: the certification name, the issuing body, and the expiry date. The sector pays close attention to the date. An up-to-date certification carries more weight than an expired one, because it shows you keep yourself updated. If you take courses on your own, list them with dates—the effort counts.
Field, site, and industrial experience
You haven't always been on a mining project. Construction, aviation, agriculture, heavy industry — it all counts if it was out on site. The trick lies in translating that experience into the sector's language.
"I worked on a site in Manhiça" is stronger than "I worked in the field." Show the machinery, the team, and the numbers: how many metres you installed, how many hours you operated a machine, what shifts you worked. Informal experience backed by concrete proof takes the place of a formal CV.
What if your experience was in agriculture, aviation, or civil construction? Translate it into mining project language. Managing a field crew, keeping tools in good working order, meeting tight schedules, working outdoors in sun and rain — recruiters read those words and know you are a site worker, even if you have never touched a coal machine.

Availability, visas, and project contracts
These projects are remote. You will live in camp housing, work rotational shifts, and travel to Tete, Caia, or Moatize. State this clearly on your CV: "Available for field work, camp accommodation, and rotational shifts." Without this line, your CV will be discarded for the role.
Also mention the shift rotation you accept: 4/2, 2/2, or whatever on/off roster the project uses. Candidates who apply for long field rotations followed by rest periods do so deliberately. Stating this explicitly removes any doubt for the recruiter.
Work visas
If you are a foreign national, working in Mozambique requires a visa and residence permit. Before applying, read about work visa quotas and regulations in Mozambique. Mozambican citizens can apply directly, skipping this step. If you already work abroad, include a record of your deployments — it proves you understand site logistics.
Fixed-term contracts
Most project hiring is on a fixed-term basis, tied to the duration of the construction phase. Learn about the renewals and limits of fixed-term contracts so you are not caught off guard. When your contract ends, you may be entitled to severance pay; see our page on contract termination and severance pay in Mozambique. Reading the terms before signing protects you and shows that you understand the industry.
Common mistakes
- A city-oriented CV without HSE or remote experience — rejected in 30 seconds.
- Empty adjectives ("responsible and committed") without technical proof. Show your last project, machinery used, or internship.
- Forgetting your field availability — in remote projects, this is the main screening criteria.
- Including details nobody asked for: marital status, or a photo when it wasn't requested.
All these mistakes have one outcome: your CV gets stuck in the filter and never makes it to the interview. What separates a successful CV from an unsuccessful one isn't your years of experience, but the clarity of four keywords — HSE, field, technical skills, and remote.

Frequently asked questions
I have never worked in mining. Can I apply?
Yes. For helper and operator roles, most projects train on the job. Show your most relevant experience — construction, aviation, mechanics, agriculture — and your willingness to work on site. Many teams train helpers and operators on-site during the first few weeks.
Do I need HSE certification?
For technical roles, it carries a lot of weight. If you do not have one, get a basic certification before applying: it makes a real difference in this sector.
How much do you earn in mining and energy?
Above the national average, especially for electrical and mechanical technicians. For updated figures, check the minimum wage table at INSS (Social Security) and compare it with open positions on Inademy.
Does my CV have to be in English?
Almost all mining and energy projects operate in English. Prepare your CV in English in Word as well, and you will be visible to international teams.
Do I need a visa to work on a project?
Only if you are a foreign national: the role requires a visa and residence permit. Mozambican citizens apply directly.
