Agricultural Extension Officer at IITA — the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture — based in Maputo, in person and fulltime. The role supports the PROCAVA project in Mozambique, with a focus on expanding soybean and maize technologies, seed systems, climate-smart agriculture and good agricultural practices.
IITA works in Mozambique on crop improvement, seed systems strengthening and climate-smart agriculture, in partnership with national and regional institutions. PROCAVA's objective is to accelerate the transformation of Mozambique's agricultural sector, integrating family farming and the private sector into the productive value chains: maize, soybean and poultry feed.
The position is mostly field-based: the work happens alongside producers and their communities.
You work in the field and in the office, in coordination with the project team. Main responsibilities:
Extension work is a connecting job: bring agricultural production closer to markets — with special weight on the poultry feed chain — and work in a network with the IITA team, public institutions, research partners, non-governmental organisations, companies and producer associations.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working with smallholder farmers: who can explain agricultural techniques in simple terms, who keeps up with the pace of fieldwork and who likes training people. If your experience already took you to Farmer Field Schools, demonstration plots or agricultural development projects, this vacancy was designed with you in mind.
